Apologies if there are any mistakes, I seem to have been a lil busier than usual recently!
-
Blimey Imi it looks a bit scary
-
Yikes...I second that Vegegrow! :o
-
Can I join in later in the year please?
-
Blimey Imi it looks a bit scary
Au contraire Rodney, Au contraire...
Not difficult at all....
Try it and see !!
-
Gulp!! :o
-
Yes Cat.....
You can join in anytime you like the BOM will run the entire year (Gulp!)
-
Well done Iminei, where did you get the time? That's three I've got to do now!!!
-
Lovely block quite different to the one I posted back in Survivor Camp! Looking forward to giving it a go.
I am hoping to make my first quilt for my bed (double size) so will be watching the blocks and choose one or two to repeat.
Thanks Imi :)
-
I turned off anything and everything internet related yesterday and forced my way through it!
its a quick and simple block to do...
the pics and then editing take all the time ...
but you have March's block!
I'm really looking forward to seeing your creations and posting them in the BOM HOF!
-
Here's my BOM (I hope). I went a bit off piste on the layout but I liked it. As the squares were 2 1/2" I used some jelly roll strips.
-
Oh wow, I really like that and so quick too. A big well done.
-
Very well done to Ploshkin for submitting the first of March's BOM....
New layout too, very effective!
Into the Hall of Fame ...you go...
-
Great fabrics Ploshkin
-
Lovely, Plosh :)
-
Oooh, I like that. 8)
-
Wow Ploshkin that is lovely, great colours too!
-
C'mon Girls...Where are you BOM's ???
THE BOM HOF is going to look pretty measly with just one creation in it for March!
This is a really simple one, so you don't need to divert too much time from the lovely Toyshop we have given you!!!
-
Ok Ok... there you go
-
Great vegegrow looks good. OK boss (Iminei) I had a break from the UFOs and I've just done January's so after Feb"s I will do March, I will get there, I will honest.
-
Wonderful Vege, are you and Plosh working together...They could both reside in the same quilt...
Into The HOF you go......

Last month, I jumped straight in and when I saw everyone else's I liked them so much that I had to make another. This month, I'm waiting and watching.
Also, I have 2 blocks to make for my class on 20th. I've only looked at one of them and it has 41 pieces!! I really should make a start on that, although the BOM would be a welcome distraction ;).
-
Nice layout, Vege, and I like the border. (Did you make it after Imi's reminder? In less than an hour?)
-
Did you make it after Imi's reminder? In less than an hour?
She could've done Pearl, it really is a quick and easy block to make
(It had to be given my time constraints last month!!! Luckily things are easing up!)
-
Very nice blocks so far. I can't make head nor tail of the instructions / measurements / cutting guide... even after having trawled through the tutorial a squillion times..... can't remember Feb's so may start again in April, if I can precis the instructions enough for me to be away from the 'puter and still work out what to do.
I am definitely not a visual learner...pics leave me cold :| I'll go online and see if I can get a list of written instructions after I've had a look in my books.
This is not me being negative....... some things just aren't meant to be
P.S. How big are these blocks meant to be Iminei? Are they all the same size?
-
Nice layout, Vege, and I like the border. (Did you make it after Imi's reminder? In less than an hour?)
Did some of it yesterday pm ( was meant to be going to look at the stash for the stash sew along but got distracted) finished this morning
-
I do like your fabrics and your border vegegrow and glad to have some company in the HOF.
Lowena, if you can't get your head round the cutting instructions you might find it easier to just look at the final sizes of the pieces and cut them from 2½" strips. That's how I cut them because I happened to have some jelly roll strips hanging about.
-
Thanks Plosh, I'll have another look :)
I'm finishing a throw at the moment, then I'll try again...... I couldn't find the block in my books so I'll write down Iminei's instructions
-
Low...
the March BOM starts off with 5" squared pieces of patterned fabric for the bow-tie and 2 1/2" squared pieces of fabric for the background .....
These will make a 4 1/2" sq block...(if you're very, very good!!)
I'm not, so I squared them down to 4 1/4" !!!!
but you could square them down to 4" if you want ... after all there are no points to cut off!!
You can also use a layer cake, which is a pack of 42 10" sq coordinating fabrics ...
in that case just double the measurements in the destructions! and make a much bigger quilt!
-
Thank you
-
Oooooo, that's lovely Ploshkin. Very effective....
Hmmmm, 5" squares you say? ......I have about 50 of those little suckers I got from an op shop, and 2.5" squares you say.....hmmmmmmm...jelly roll you say? (I'm rummaging around in my box as we speak).....aha! fist high in the air with jelly roll leftover strip and a wad of 5" squares. Triumph! I'll get right on it, end of the week, err maybe end of next week. ;)
-
Urgh, tried this whilst I'm not well, not to be recommended. I've spent an hour on it and haven't even bothered with the border. I don't know if the instructions are confusing, or my addled brain is being unreceptive.
I do know that a quarter inch seam only reared its ugly head near the end.
I'll have to have another try near the end of the month.
:(
-
Its all there Fajita...
just a poor choice of fabrics (imo)...
Relax, get well and try again!
-
I will do, I promise.
-
My B.O.M. will be late this month. I am busy cutting and making shift dresses. I rarely wear a dress but as I am due for an operation on 26th I will only have one dress to wear. I won't be able to wear jeans because of the waistband, I will have stitches there. Plus I am panicking a bit because they are keeping me in! Arghh I hate hospitals :(.
-
Why do I keep reading this as Book of the month? Must be going dippy or too much :toast: and not enough :cake:
-
I hope all goes well for you, Lilian. We'll be thinking of you. :flower: :flower: :flower: :cake:
-
Thank you Pearl. :D
-
That's such a good reason not to have done your BOM. I'm going with "The :woof: ate it" or "I left it on the :bus:."
-
Ha ha Pearl. I do plan on making this month's B.O.M. if I can, But then I hope my dog doesn't eat it :woof:

I think Imi will let you off Lilian... most peeps don't want to stay in hospital but its a means to an end .. can you post on here when your in there.. we'll distract you.... best wishes for a short stay :flower: :flower:
-
All the best for your treatment Lilian, let thoughts of your stunning BOM ( to be ) distract you :flower:

I will try if they have free wi-fi and I am feeling up to it. I will probably just sleep, I tend to do that when I'm unsettled. |O

Thank you Lowena, with any luck it will be keyhole surgery and I can come home the day after in time to finish my B.O.M. :vintage: :flower:
-
C'mon Peeps...March is going to look pretty dismal in the BOMHOF with only two creations!!!
-
I've just posted on the Today thread, Imi. Today's the day. :sew: :thread: 8)
-
I thought I'd cut it out but I don't seem to have enough pieces.
(note to self - read the instructions. Don't just look at the pictures.)
-
Here it is. It is straight, honest. Luckily my sewing is better than my photography.
-
Lovely stuff Pearl....
and into the BOM HOF you go....
We also have a late new entry for January from Ellabella !!!
-
Very nice Pearl, :flower:
-
Thank you. I'm still thinking that I'd like to put them together somehow. Look out for a thread asking for advice in December.
-
I'm sure Iminei will be brimming with ideas :ninja:
-
I'm sure Iminei will be brimming with ideas :ninja:
That's what put me in this predicament in the first place. ;)
I'm thinking I'll stick to the colours I used in January from now on. If I put a border on March, it would be the same size at January.
-
Ooh, blues and purples are my favourite colours. Don't discount more yellow though, it's a nice contrast.
-
Those are lovely Pearl...I'm sorry I was not more organised with the BOM (ie sizes) ... I'm not really an organized Gal!
-
Even if your blocks had all been the same size, Imi, it doesn't follow that mine would be. I'm not an "all the same size in neat rows and columns" type of gal. 8)
-
Why don't you leave things as randomly sized as you want them to be, and have the putting together at the end as a challenge. Everyone's will be different.
-
I'm going to sort out the fabric for mine this week, so I may get it done earlier than I thought! :snip: 8)
-
Managed to get my March BOM finished.

The colours haven't photographed very well....I was cheerfully making it thinking it's a lovely fresh spring green, but the colour in the photo's making me think of mushy peas...
Sandra.

-
Clever girls, Pearl and Sandra. They really look good ( even in the colour of  )
-
I'm not the greatest green fan either but that looks great & I do like the way you've done the border with the little corner squares
-
Very nice, Sandra. I do like the border.
-
Lovely block Sandra, and it does come across as Spring Green (mushy peas are more grey) and,.......
into the Hall of Fame you go.......

Hmm, not sure this particular block and I are well suited. I seemed to find the instructions a tad confusing.
Roll on April.
-
I seemed to find the instructions a tad confusing.
Really Fajita ???? I'm sorry.... in what way ?
asides from that you have done a splendid job!
and into the BOM HOF you go ....
-
Oh I take full responsibility for being a halfwit. I seem to just not keep up with face to face and back to backs, and both times I did it I sewed the triangles onto the back of the square instead of the front.
Just me being me.
-
Ha ha. The finished result is lovely, Fajita. :D :D
-
I just finished my March B.O.M :D
-
That's nice. I like them arranged in the round like that.
-
Beautiful, Lilian...striking!
and into the BOM HOF you go...
-
Oh so ignorant! :| What is BOM? That is to say what do you do with them when you have finished. I wouldn't mind making some to improve my patchwork skills .

Thanks Imi 0_0. I must admit I am using up some squares and bits and bobs that I don't really like all that much

Hi Lyn J, BOM = Block Of the Month. We are doing a block every month. Iminei is really good at patchwork and quilting and she is putting up a tutorial for us to follow.
Please join in you are most welcome. I am a beginner and am using this to help my skills and knowledge. You will find the thread under 'The Dark Side'
Happy sewing :vintage: 0_0
-
You will find the thread under 'The Dark Side'
thanks, grabs a torch and totters off
-
I must admit I am using up some squares and bits and bobs that I don't really like all that much.
Wow, Lilian. If that's what you make with fabric you don't like, I can't wait to see what you do when you like the fabric. Stunning.

Thank you so much Pearl. I am blushing. 0_0
-
Enjoying seeing people's pics and looking forward to trying myself.
I am planning to find time over Thursday and Friday to get this one and February's done. Hoping by posting to say so I will have to now!
-
Look forward to seeing them Cheesecake and thank you for supporting the forum by subscribing :)
-
Finally, finally done mine - all three, photos taken just need to see if I can load them.
-
And this months, again not trimmed. Will trim and finish when I decide what to do with the blocks.
-
Nice one. You've been busy :D
-
Blimey Maliw your going to get a gold star from Imi
Love the colours
-
I remember being told that blue and green shouldn't be put together (nobody told the bluebells) but your colours are fab.
-
Gorgeous Mali....
and into the BOM HOF you go (with your devils block, eh Lowena ????hahaha)

-
I know :'( I'm beginning to think Mali is doing it on purpose :D
-
No Lowena, not on purpose. I went to Abakhan to see what the had in fabric (not that I haven't got enough) and just happened to come home with the blues and greens.
-
and if you do all the blocks with the same fabrics you could (if you are good with the maths) make it all into a quilt..or well, something!
-
Got this one done today. I like how many layout options there are with it. Thank you for the tutorials Iminei.
-
Love the colours :)
-
looks great .. this is the layout I went for...
-
Lovely dark colours, looks good. Same layout I chose :D
-
Thats nice cheescake, i like the colours and the layout, it's very effective. I may make another square.
-
Love the paisley there...
and off you go....into the BOM HOF....
-
Re-done March.
-
Your'e a minx Fajita, your'e going for gold aren't you???!!!
Into the BOM HOF, you know the way ...
-
You wait until all of mine come steaming in together, with a wet sail ( mixed metaphores, I know :| ) Faj ;)
