So I found a seller on Gumtree selling the machine, and she agreed to sell me just the foot. (The machine she’s selling will work perfectly well without it, including the overlocker side... it just won’t do a really good rolled hem on the overlocker.)

What about having a look at this @MissMagpie  and if they have the foot, see if you can buy off them separately?

I think one of us must by be psychic—because I found this too, and that is exactly what I did.... and yay, the seller agreed!!!

Well you live and learn

Oh, I’m very happy with the machine—it’s just the additional foot for doing rolled hemming on the overlocker that I haven’t got. You wouldn’t necessarily expect an old machine to come with all the attachments; but I’m trying to track one down. Not everyone wants to do rolled hemming, so maybe...

I had a vintage Singer for my 10th birthday (which was a very long time ago). It was perfect for a child, because (a) it was cheap—my father paid £10 for it at auction, which was worth more than it is today but still not a huge sum; (b) it was sturdy, so I wasn’t going to break it; and (c) it wasn’t electric, so I could safely use it unsupervised. While adult supervision is essential some of the time, children also need to be able to exercise their creativity unsupervised some of the time.

Just to clarify (as this has caused confusion elsewhere): I already have the standard presser foot for the overlocker side of the machine. It was, however, supposed to come with an additional overlocker foot for rolled hemming, and that’s the one I don’t have.

I’m hoping there might be someone out there who never uses the overlocker rolled hemming function, and might be willing to sell me the spare foot; or perhaps who has a broken-down one, good only for
spares or repair...

Thanks again, everyone!

I’ve been looking into Retr0bright—funny how it sounds like a trademark, when it’s something you have to mix up yourself!

Literally never heard of Autosol. Will definitely try that too.

Thank you! I have been doing what you suggest; but I’ll see if I can track down Theobold’s. You never know!

Just to clarify, I DO have the standard overlocker foot with the machine, and I can overlock with it—so no need to return it!

But it is supposed to have an additional overlocker foot, for doing a rolled hem. This is one I don’t have. I’m hoping that someone who has the machine, but doesn’t use the rolled hemming function, might just be willing to sell me the spare foot...

I recently bought a 30-year-old New Home Combi DX, which has a sewing machine on one side and swivels round on a turntable to reveal an overlocker on the other side.

Unfortunately, it's minus the rolled hemming foot for the overlocker side (not the standard sewing machine rolled hemming foot), that would originally have been supplied with the machine.

I've tried everywhere, thus far to no avail--I even e-mailed Janome in Japan! If anyone happens to have this foot that you would be willing to sell, please let me know.

I have a Combi DX, purchased recently on eBay. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the rolled hemming foot for the OVERLOCKER side (not the standard sewing machine rolled hem foot), that would originally have come with it.

If any Combi owner reading this happens to have a rolled hemming overlocker foot that you're not using and would be willing to sell, could you message me, please?

Hello again Combi fans...

The Combi DX I purchased recently is in overall excellent condition, but it's missing the overlocker rolled hemming foot (NOT the standard sewing machine rolled hem foot) that would originally have come with it. I've tried just about everywhere, but with no success so far.

If any Combi owner happens to be reading this and has an overlocker rolled hemming foot for the machine that you don't use and would be willing to sell, could you message me, please? I'd pay a decent price for it! :-)

I paid £180 + delivery for mine just recently, which is in great condition. I didn’t think that was bad. I have seen them sell for a similar price, and for almost twice as much. Maybe if enough people want them, Janome will revive the idea! :-D

My Combi is the only machine I regret selling. I've had many machines come and go, (and many stay!) but that's the one that I'm sorry I sold. One day.........

If you really want one, you could always put a saved search on eBay (which I how I found mine). You probably wouldn’t have to wait more than a few weeks. Most sellers will ship them, although they cost about £30 to post within the UK via ParcelForce.

I know we are getting off topic now; but you are so right about people poisoning themselves through resentment... meanwhile, the object of the resentment is in most cases just getting on with his or her life!

I’ve just bought one of these off eBay. Seems in excellent condition, although I’m going to get it serviced. I already have an overlocker and a really good sewing machine; but grappling with two machines is an absolute pain! I remember the Combi machines being on sale years ago; but didn’t buy it because I wanted a Bernina. Then recently I happened to see a video online about the Combi, and thought ‘I WANT ONE OF THOSE!’, so I put in a saved search and waited... I believe they’re quite rare as they never really caught on, but they are out there! I’m glad you’ve had such a good experience with yours.

Thanks everyone for the advice!

(By the way, @wrenkins - I thoroughly agree with your motto! I have heard it before, but I don't know where it comes from... do you?)
