Title: Searching for blue Japanese Crepe Fabric
Post by: Flowerpot100 on June 10, 2019, 17:24:54 PM
Hi - I was at a great show at The Farnham Maltings last weekend called Threads. It was brilliant!

I bought a kimono pattern from The Makers Atelier, and desperately want to find a similar crepe fabric that they used to make their sample - also worn in the pictures. They said the material was from The Cloth House (somewhere in Soho) but I've checked their website, and can only find a japanese pinky crepe version. I've spent FAR too long this weekend searching online for similar, so wondered if you had any ideas...

I've found some great pieces of fabric, but all very narrow and thin - mainly from vintage kimonos. Or cotton fabric by the metre - and I really want a CREPE. It'll hang much better!

Thank you!

@Flowerpot100

Do you have a link to the pattern as I can't find the kimono one on their site? Does it come under another name or is it called the kimono pattern?

There a quite a few crepe fabrics on the Fabric Godmother website - searching for “crepe” Returned over 300 results, but there is also an option for “crepe, satin & polyester in the fabric type of the dress making fabric option.

I think you may be after the Japanese polyester crepe fabric, that is the one that is showing for the kimono pattern you mentioned.

There is a lovely Japanese site that I have just found and there is so much choice, I love all the designs.
The fabric that is probably similar is 'Polyester Chirimen Crepe'.

There is so much on the site, you'll need to look around. They do ship to the Uk and the guaranteed delivery postage looks to be reasonable and the fabric prices seem to be a lot better than what you would pay here? Maybe thats the way to go to get something you really like? I"m going to have a look round this site too. Found it by googling.

Seems to be pink or black are the colours for the season. But am sure there will be some in blue somewhere or on another similar site. You could always ring the soho shop and ask them if by any chance they had any of the fabric you wanted left in the shop? Perhaps they haven't put it on line yet or maybe they just have a small mount in the shop?

Hope you find something suitable although I like the Japanese crepe daisy from the cloth house too.

Thank you so, so much!   :)
You are all complete stars. I'd forgotten that I was a member on here, and as you can see, I have no posting history, so I am very grateful for your time in responding.
I had looked on the fabric godmother site, but will look again more closely. Fatigue had probably set in by that point!

The fabrictales site is a new one for me. I should be going to bed...!

If all else fails, this would work well in viscose.
