Machine Accessories / Re: Hobbycraft three tier storage trolley
« on: June 18, 2022, 05:19:32 AM »
I have something similar bought when we got 'big dog' as he went through Rubys (little dog) toys and shredded them if he got near them. He's getting better at leaving them alone.

I have it in the hall with dog leads/harness/poo bags/treat bag in the top tier and 'little dogs' toys in the bottom two tiers.

Really useful for all sorts of quick storage.

Your Favourite Suppliers / Re: Newcastle upon Tyne area fabric shops?

I agree about BST - a lovely range of fabrics and brilliant staff.

Boyes are definitely good for haberdashery, wool and their fabric ranges aren't as good as they used to be but it depends what you're looking for.

I've not tried First for Fabrics though I've browsed the website a few times

Immanuels market stall is well worth a visit - I got some lovely sweatshirt type fabrics (polyester) and a lovely Jersey fabric - all  at £2/metre.  Whats not to like at those prices

I've used BST both for online orders and in person. They have a good selection of fabrics at reasonable prices.

The store is about 40 minutes from home so I usually combine it with a trip first to DD's (then she usually takes me as she knows the roads better than me)

Hi Fenella

No cats now, we lost our ginger moggie in September but we have two dogs.  I'm only along the road in sunny Seaton

I've used my mum's round metal ones on and off, I bought a set with bamboo handles which are nice to hold but my favourites are the LED light up ones - great for when you're using dark coloured yarn

Sewing Machines / Re: Machine Servicing
« on: January 04, 2019, 16:50:03 PM »

Pleased to say Kevin Doody came to my house today and gave both my machines a de-fluff and oil etc (both have been running fine but a little noisy).

2 machines now purring  :meow: along nicely.

Thanks Efemera for the recommendation and Ellabella too :D

Sewing Machines / Machine Servicing
« on: December 27, 2018, 17:16:39 PM »

I'm looking for recommendations please - I have F&R overlocker & Janome sewing machine both in need of a service.

Can anyone help with recommendations please I live on Teesside but travel to the north of York regularly & also up to Gateshead so I'm not restricted to that immediate area.

The North East is a bit of a black hole when it comes to fabric/machines -<

Thanks in advance

Frances

A Good Yarn / Re: Anyone Crochet?
« on: April 18, 2017, 17:55:01 PM »

I was taught to crochet (& sew) by my mum when I was quite young .  We had great fun as she was right handed and I'm left handed so I sat in front of her rather than next to her.

I didn't crochet much but years later could remember the basics and used YT left handed tutorials to refresh my memory.

I mainly do throws of various shapes, sizes and patterns but it's great to be able to take it away in the caravan to keep me busy.  Im currently working on two simultaneously for our beds in the van (twin single beds). I've attached a photo showing the bed tidies I've made in the van upholstery/curtain fabrics and you can also see a bit of a throw i made (using left over yarn from a much bigger throw) for our old van - i'm using the same pattern but doing large colour blocks rather than 'stripes' in -so far - red, parchment and chocolate brown.

I won't be a convert to the dark side :o- but I will be dipping my toes in now and again with small pieces of very basic quilting ;) .

The work I've seen is beautiful and I can understand and appreciate the sheer hard work as well as the time that go into it but it's not for me.

Hi Lowena & UttaRetch

The only items I've quilted so far are the backs of 2 bed tidies I made for our new caravan  and I sent away to get same upholstery & curtain fabrics so they matched.  I'm going to make another (portrait as opposed to landscape iyswim) to put near where I sit rather than have phone/tablet on the seat.

We decided to Velcro the original ones on to the side of the caravan near our headboard  as they'd get knocked about when accessing under the bed locker.

I may dabble my toes over into the dark side but only occaisionally

Morning everyone

I found The Sewing Place a couple of weeks ago, registered and promptly forgot my password! :S but I'm sorted now (thanks Admin) and raring to go.

I make clothes for myself and have been experimenting with making handbags but if the fancy strikes will have a go at most things.
