Oh, no....I shouldn't have seen this. My minds gone off thinking of miniature quilts for teddy bears :S
I should be working!
I only sat down for a bite to eat and to catch up on what you're all up to. 0_0
It's a lovely idea. I hope there'll be quite a few people getting involved.
Oh, dear :[...I've just started googling 'Trip Around The World'. This is why my home needs dusting....I wonder if I can miniaturise a Trip quilt..... -<
Sandra.

-
I have a fabulous idea. Whether it can be done though...
-
How big would the quilt need to be?
-
Please can you ask Mr Sewing Place Bear if very, very, very basic beginner quilts can be entered, please? Thank you!
8) :flower:
-
I've laid TSP bear down and measured over him and I think a good size would be 8" x 10" or thereabouts
and yes SG, anyone can enter.
Keep it simple,
small squares for instance, simply quilted with diagonal lines through the squares will look fab
or thin strips with quilting across ... Just try and keep it in proportion.
-
Thank you Imi.... that's very weeny so needs some thinking out ;)
You'll be fine Snowy.... :ninja:
-
Fabric sorted but I'm doing Sept's BOM at the moment.
I also need to wait for my younger son to wake up as I am going to employ him as my photographer for this project. Yes, it is 16:45 and yes, he is asleep. He stayed at a friend's, watching films all night. I don't wake teenagers up as a principle. :D
Will post pics tomorrow.
-
Have started... pics to follow :ninja:
-
I saw this just before starting a 3 hour journey and have had plenty of time to think of various options, but I am still undecided as to exactly what to do. I think an evening with some graph paper and pencils is needed. I won't get chance to start it until next weekend so there will be a bit of a delay for any photos.
-
Am bereft of ideas, so hoping a bottle of red wine might lubricate the thought processes :toast:
Colours and patterns need careful thought as the finished item will be so small...scale is all important.. -<.... where's that Cabernet Sauvignon :toast:
Whoops.. forgot that I have to make dinner first :| :ninja:
-
Imi, your photo of TSP bear isn't showing, and I'd hate to make him a quilt which clashes with his colours!
-
Yes, he's disappeared :o Done a runner in case he gets buried under a mountain of quilts perhaps :D

OMG, he's disappeared!! :D
If my idea works out, my first picture might not be uncut fabric as I want to use up the last of my spare squares and use up some offcuts -<
-
I've just been reading the destructions Imi and you want a picture of the uncut fabric... gulp I've made my quilt using the oakshott scraps so it has a very triangular theme as that's how they came...unless you have a picture of them ?
the scraps are about 2" along the base and a touch over 1 " high I drew a grid on some soft iron on interfacing and arranged the black... they have to be the dominant colour because there are more of them
-
Ladies I am going to amend the rule of uncut fabric for this particular sewathon.
As the quilt is going to be so small and you may want to use up your scraps please make sure you take a pic of the scraps before cutting and sewing.
Amended Rules ...
The competition runs from 2nd September til 2nd October.

Aaaand proceed ... P.S ... Bears getting very excited that you lovely Ladies are rising to this challenge!!

TSP Bear, this is the fabric with which I am going to make you a quilt. I hope that you will like it. :)

Thanks Imi :)

You know I am racking my brains as to what I made which resulted in those Oakshott triangle leftovers !!!
-
You know I am racking my brains as to what I made which resulted in those Oakshott triangle leftovers !!!
I remember you mentioning them on the 'how small is too small thread' and you said this 'Glad you like them, there are some weeny triangles in there, in Oakshott Cottons (Drool) cut offs from Star cornerstones I have been making,'
does that help?
-
Ah yes ... The Star Block Swap Quilt .
Thank you Darling!
-
Dear Sewing Place Bear ( Thread Bear by name perchance??? :thread:)
Here is my fabric for your quilt. I hope it is to your liking
-
Is there some Green in there Low ???
Particularly like the dark grey and orange yellow ... moody
-
Onwards with the triangles ...these were stitched with tiny seams as the scraps were so small and I just pressed them to one side as they were too small to cut open and press

Smaller than 1/4"?
Wanders off whimpering.

Yes Imi.... I decided when planning my latest ( just completed ) quilt top that I needed to don my big girl knickers and embrace the tiniest amounts of :x It's difficult to use a wide spectrum of colours without it ( and there's only so much teal a girl can have ) Anyhooo....... this isn't for me.... it's for a bear who may not be so colour
biased discerning :ninja:
-
Been practising my blocks..... not entirely successfully, but I know what to do to correct things -< Good job it's a small project as I've already discarded 2 blocks with abandon, not having to worry about running out of fabric........yet
I'll make progress tomorrow when I'm not worn out from all the gardening I did today ........ sewing and test match tomorrow ;)
-
Please Miss... (waves hand in air to attract attention) I has finished and wants to submit my entry to this very 'portant competition.. when you say send entry to Iminei@thesewing place.org.uk I cut and pasted and Mr Computer said no... There is a gap between sewing and place so I made the letters stand next to each other and it worked this time.
to everyone who is saying I am a goody goody  for doing this homework quickly I would like to explain I has a big curtain order arriving soon and then if I is really lucky we might go away for a few days afterwards ... sowryy
-
I couldn't get it to accept that link either.......is it an e mail or what???
*** Link amended now ***

Its gone from my outbox so I hope its worked :ninja:
Yes it worked Imi confirmed it arrived thx Imi :)
-
Why did I ever think this was a good idea? So fiddly!
Could be worse. At least it's only 8" wide.
-
Gorgeous colours, I love purples and pinks! Still wondering whether to try this - I think the TSPB would be like Queen Victoria and not amused by my effort!!! :o
-
Well, the advantage, SG, is that it is very small. I'm only going to do one more row of seminole and a couple of bridging strips and it will be 10".
I'm sure TSPB would be delighted with your effort.
-
Come on Snowy, your work is super and any bear would be proud to own it <3
I'm having a go and would love some more company....pleeeaase :*
-
8"?
How wide are your strips, Pearl?
-
How are you doing those chevrons Pearl ???
They are excellent!
-
I have done a "mock up" ( or toile :D ) of my quilt. It looks ok so I'll start on the proper article this evening :sew:
:ninja:
-
Sewingsue, the blue and green one is 2 1/2" and the chevron one is just over 4".
How are you doing those chevrons Pearl ???
They are excellent!
Thank you.
I used jelly roll strips, yellow strips trimmed to 1 1/2" width and purple to 1 1/4", sewed the three strips together (yellow, purple, yellow), fold it in half lengthways, line the 45 degree line with the bottom of the strips and cut 1 1/4" pieces along the length of the strips. Because the fabric is folded, you get pieces with the purple line going both ways (see pic), so you just alternate them, sew them together and then trim off the top and bottom pointy bits.
Yes, I know - clear as mud.
-

Come on Peeps, If Low is having a go, there really is no excuse not to join in ...
and TSP Bear is very excited at the prospect of his very own quilt!
-
Come on Peeps, If Low is having a go, there really is no excuse not to join in ...
Excuse me!! Erm..
What exactly is meant by this cryptic remark ?? -<
-
Absolutely no inference at all ... Honest Injun
-
Finished my quilt .... but..... I don't like it :'( I don't like it at all :'(
so
it's back to the drawing board and I'll make another one......off to get some ideas -<
:ninja:
-
After a few days away (which did include a trip to a fabric shop), I am reunited with an internet connection and more importantly with my stash. I did some doodling and have decided on an organised scrappy design. So here is the first stage - unorganised scraps! Now to work out the quilt maths and see if any of these are too small to be useful.
-
Fabric chosen for quilt mark 2.
-
Construction and detail
Yes, it's green!! I had used up so many of my scraps / strips in the rubbish quilts, that I didn't have many options left. Anyway it uses up my stock of the 's colour so I'm pleased :D
-
Couldn't find how to send it privately to Iminei, so I'm afraid I've had to post it on here. Remove if inappropriate

Beautiful, Lowie. :loveit:
I think you have to send the entry by email to Iminei@thesewingplace.org.uk.
-
That's lovely. And beautiful colours. 0_0 ;)
-
So very pretty :) it looks beautiful, and as Acorn says, such lovely colours :)
-
I think that's the very first illustration of hand quilting I've seen on here and green is my favourite colour!!! Gorgeous! <3
Well done Low. :toast:
-
You've all been busy!
I'm really looking forward to seeing all the finished entries. I have a feeling it's going to be difficult to choose a favourite.
Looks like there's going to be a lovely Liberty quilt added too, StitchinTime.
My fabrics I have chosen are these....
Ooooh, actually. Ditch the bluey purple on the far left of the picture. I exchanged that one for a blue. All the other fabrics are in it though.
I started off keen enough but lost interest a little bit when I started to join it all together....I began to feel irritated by how small the bits are/seams a bit off/not sure of the colours.
Anyway.....It's done.
Trip Around The World. It measures just 9 inch square....a bit smaller than it should/could have been, but it looks quite cute.
I hope TSP Bear will consider it a possibility.
Sandra.

Please remember Girls that the winning quilt will be winging its way to TSP Bear so keep it handy (and in good nick) til the end of the competition please!
-
My pencil and paper doodles have progressed to something a bit more technical and I now know what sizes I need to cut. Some of them look rather small! Given the wet weather forecast for today, I think this afternoon will be spent cutting the pieces and working out the best way of joining them.
-
I've just sent my entry off to Iminei.
StitchinTime...you're planning yours properly. :loveit: It's going to be fabulous.

AHA!!!!
The Cat was away yesterday and this Bear did play with her laptop, which was carelessly left logged on and now I exist! as a peep (as she seems to call you) on the forum!
I'm so looking forward to seeing all the fabulous quilts you good peeps have been busy bea(ve)ring away with ...
Its turned chilly chez The Imineis' in Deepest Darkest Dorset and Im left alone at night you know :o with nary a stitch to cover me ... so thoughtless !
Thank you for all your efforts, I can't wait to see the finished articles ... and of course, now being a real life peep on the forum ... I get a vote too!!!
-
I was thinking of doing an improv type of quilt, Sandra, but I find I need to have an idea of how the finished quilt will look before starting. I might end up using that technique once I have the pieces cut.
-
There are such lovely colours and plans here, you are all so very clever :)
It's very cold and windy here today, I think I'll have to look in my scrap bag, be brave, and see if I can try to make something - my lovely :vintage: has been feeling very neglected as I haven't been sewing for a long while, new little :meow: who needed a lot of tlc and trying crochet have been very distracting :D

I need some sort of plan, but mine are scribbles on scraps of paper. (This is why my sizes don't work out properly :S) I love how organised you are with your plan.

How does TSP Bear feel about snowflakes?
-
I am intending to do a quilt for bear. I've managed to clear the decks of other outstanding stuff now so no excuses - except that I don't know what to do yet.
-
Did we agree a size of 8x10 inches?
-
Stuff from scrap bag, will be used in an ad hoc manner. May be all used, may be just a selection.
-
Fajita... 10" x 12" was the suggestion, but mine came out as a 12" square ;)
-
Ok, thanks, Lowena.
Borders are an ever expanding gift
-
Mitre!
-
Fajita, I think on the first page of this thread, the size was suggested as 8"x10" or thereabouts.
Edited: just realised that if the mitre is on the binding, then this is too late for you, Fajita.
-
Thanks Stitcintime.
My quilt is now complete with a final size of 9.25 inches X 11.5 inches.
All pictured and emailed to the boss lady Iminei, fingers crossed.
-
Hello Fajitapeep,
I understand from the Oooohs and Aaahs coming from the other side of Herself's laptop this morning that entries have begun to trickle in ... just wish she left the emailbox open when she buzzes off for me to have a looksie!
Snowflakes are lovely Syrinxpeep, or so I think from what Ive seen on the telly.
-
Do I still need to e mail mine Iminei? Sorry, I forgot initially and it's here somewhwere :ninja:
-
Yes Please Low, to
iminei@thesewingplace.org.uk
with a bit of narrative about fabrics, design, quilting, details etc and the 4 pics please!
Looking forward to it Low

Pile of scraps :) My attempt will be made from some of these 8)
-
Oddment of fleece to use as wadding :)
-
I've made a start. Here are my fabrics and some of the bits I have pieced.
-
Such pretty colours, I love brights and patterns :)
I have just finished my quilt this afternoon :D the binding very nearly defeated me, but it's done, my first ever patchwork 8) I just hope my wobbly binding will be forgiven!!
Will photograph and send to Iminei over the weekend :)
-
I can't wait to see everyone's quilt.
Yesterday I finished my top and basted it within an inch of its life. Today, I had to go to work but if I don't go tomorrow, I'll quilt it and do the border. :D
-
All the pieces are cut (and a few spares) and after a bit of swapping and checking in black & white, I might have decided on what goes where. Now to find a nice new needle and start sewing them all together.
-
I have sent pictures of my effort to Iminei.
-
Just finished sewing the binding this evening - I could get used to quilts this size. It will be a few days before I get chance to send the set of photos to Iminei.

Another entry has plopped through the ether onto my virtual doormat, thank you SiT ... beautiful work!
TSP Bear is looooving this ...it makes him feel very special and important and if he's not careful he's going to start finding it hard to sit up straight, his head swelling as much as it is!
and I'm loving it too ... you are all so talented and generous to be doing this ... methinks this could have legs!
Just a week to go before the entries will be posted up and ready for votes ... roll up, roll up ....
-
Here is my entry, finished this afternoon. Why do I leave everything till the last minute? ><
-
Beautiful :D such gorgeous, bright colours - wish I was a bear!!!
-
Ooh that's gorgeous - and very well co-ordinated with the bear himself, I think.
-
Thank you. I never thought I'd make anything that necessitated cutting a 1" strip. :D
-
That's lovely Pearl...such pretty colours.
I can't wait to see all the entries.
