Sewing Machines / Re: Singer 5122 - how to thread tension discs?

Your YouTube link shows the threading procedure very clearly, @MistyRose. Much better than my attempt at explaining it!

Hope it's helpful, @THX1138

I'm not familiar with that particular model, but did have an older Singer machine. My initial reaction was that the 'pinkish' tension spring is broken. It should be a continuous loop with both ends fixed into the disc housing. It can then move up and down to even out the tension on the thread. You thread the discs by passing the thread through the tension discs, over the loop, then through the 'blue-ish' guide. On my machine, you did not pass the thread through the (pink) loop.

As I said, I don't know the particular model. Here's a link to a site where you can buy a manual. Sorry I couldn't find a free download, but there might be one out there.

That's a lovely border print. I like the use of the contrast border as the sash belt.

Nice top, looks cool and comfortable. Good decision to go with vertical lines!

Patterns Discussion / Re: Style Arc Talulah Dress.

That pattern caught my eye when I was looking through the Style Arc site earlier this week. It's a nice style.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with a woven version. In addition to the changes you mention, I'd need to consider introducing a bust dart as part of an FBA. I think I'd add length too and lower the neckline slightly.

Keep us posted with your progress!

Love the fabric and the style. Those little sleeves are a good idea.

Beautiful! I prefer it with the lace on the waistband as to my eye it pulls the whole dress together.

@SkoutSews It’s cotton from our local department store..Boyes

Cotton will be good for the warm weather - and aren't you lucky to have a local source of fabric!

I like that. It's a bit similar to the Style Arc Jules, but without the deep V neckline. I might go for your higher version next time. Good summer sleeves too.
Where did you get that nice fabric and what is it?

Montavilla Sewing

I found this YouTube channel when looking for info on my new(ish) machine. It has machine-specific guides to using various models from a variety of manufacturers and also some generic lessons or tutorials explaining various sewing techniques.

Hope it's of interest!

Lovely dress! I'm becoming a big fan of an empire waistline, they're both comfortable and flattering.

High quality cottons are great fabrics to sew with and wear, and the lining will add body and drape. Now all we need is better weather.

Technical Help / Re: A gathered cuff

Overlocking finishes a gathered set-in sleeve beautifully, I always think. It's one of those things that I find very satisfying, after sewing Laura Ashley lookalikes back in the day and having very messy armscye seams. It would tidy up the gathered cuffs a treat!
Very nice blouse pattern.

They're lovely, very subtle ruffles!  You've made a great job of them too.
