I started my "Star in space" in 2015, but today I finished with the label :D
It's sewn after a tutorial of MSQC called "binding tool star", but I enlarged it a bit.
Machine sewn, machine quilted, 160x210cm.

Beautiful, I love the colours

Hi, that is beautiful. It really looks like a star ( or a snowflake) floating in space. It is almost 3 dimensional somehow and stunning colours too.
-
That's beautiful, Sakar. So striking.
Please could you post a picture of your avatar so that I can have a closer look?
-
Thanks for your nice comments :* On Thursday it was finished and today it's already a gift for my mother-in-law :)
@pearl: Its size is about 140x140cm, and it's made from our very nice group of "Star block swappers" in 2016.
Here you go: click here to the pic (https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dnGu84ACBs0/WMOdx7bgB7I/AAAAAAAAGvg/MC2AZc05gPAMZjagPHbXaRYKsk31FQQbwCLcB/s1600/TSF-StarBlockSwap-2016.jpg)

That is just stunning Sakar and the background fabric is just perfect. I have serious quilt envy now. Your mother in law is a lucky lady

Thanks, Sakar. I remember the star block swap but I didn't post much in those days. I really like the 3D effect and thought I might be able to do something similar with the BOM blocks (if I ever have more than two).
-
Sakar that is such a stunning piece of work! I love it!!
I remember commenting on your avatar quilt over on TSF such a good way to treat sampler blocks.

Oh my god, you make me a little embarrassed (http://www.quiltfriend.de/images/smilies/redface.gif)
Jenny offered a very good tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2r_n3seVNQ), I just did, what she suggested and modiefied it a bit.
But thanks everybody :*
PS: Yes, my MIL had nearly a heart attack, when she arrived at home (after 4 weeks of hospital) and found the quilt on her bed .... <3

Outstanding! Gorgeous quilt!

Sakar this quilt has been on my list for ages. You've done a truly beautiful job of it. Congrats. :toast:

Thanks! :*
That's beautiful Sakar and gosh it's huge.
And yes, it is :D Winter nights can be cold and I wanted the quilt large enough for the young couple to fit underneath ;)
-
It's lovely Sakar
-
Both of the quilts are fantastic Sakar. You have my utmost respect. I tried the binding star quilt as well from Jenny's tutorial and it worked ok but I couldn't work out how to enlarge it and gave it up in the end. The dog loved it in her basket though, so it wasn't wasted. Yours is truly beautiful. <3
-
Beautiful, I love the colours
Me too, very striking.
-
Thanks :)
Yes, it was "a bit" tricky and it took me a while to come to an end with those blocks... and it looks better while standing back a little bit ;)
Fortunately it works fine with this dark background.
-
The wedding quilt is just beautiful. And such a big one....how much fun was it to tackle and put together!?
-
That is beautiful , as usual. What do the symbols in the middle mean? What a special gift for the happy couple!
-
It was great fun to put it together, especially because I couldn't decide on the style, so I made a kind of "how to finish this top?" party with my mother and a quilting-friend :)
The couple is very religious and I know, what their faith means to them.
Those 3 symbols are the "main-basics" for the Christian faith in the Catholic church (in traditional colours)
Tau-Cross: Faith (no specific colour)
Heart: love (red)
Anchor: Hope (green)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theological_virtues
And because it's a wedding gift I added the rings to it, but that's my free interpretation :P
-
I can see how the block is pieced Sakar, but how did you do the 4 symbols and have you any close up shots???
When is their wedding ?? That is one waaaay beyond the call of duty present, I do hope you and Martin are going !!
-
yes I do have some closer pics, but not here and now. I can show you some tomorrow evening, when we are back at home again.
I have just pieced all the churn dash blocks, then I measured their size and cut some background fabrics, on which I made the symbols with applique.
The wedding is next weekend.
-
My niece will finish the college next week and I made her a "little" present for this occasion.
140x200cm
Machine sewn and quilted in just 8 days
-
That's really lovely Sakar
-
That is fabulous Sakar. Log cabin is a favourite of mine.
-

That's lovely Sakar.. what a fab present

Thats turned out stupendous S.
And you quilted it yourself on your home machine ??? WOW!
-
Thanks for your nice comments!! :flower:

Yes, it's the first time that I have really sewn a LogCabin and I liked it. The pattern comes out from a book, I just modified the colours.
Yes, I quilted it on my home machine, but I don't like too much quilting. So I just sewed "stitch in the ditch" around all steps of the red logCabins. So it's simple and easy ;)
And it was a very light batting with just 2,5mm, it did quite well im my machine :)

What I have done and made in the last week...
A blanket with 60cm in diameter for our cats, inspired by the Green Lake (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grüner_See_(Styria)) just a few kilometres away.
-
That's beautiful Sakar. I hope the cats appreciate it. :D
-
Thanks Supergran, yes they do :meow:
-
Sakar, you do such lovely work.....and so quick too!!!!
-
Thanks, Ruby :)
I have forgotten to show you the bag for my old western guitar called "Lucky Luke" ;-) It's made out of 3 old trousers from Mr. Sakar :P, so I just had to buy some zippers and webbing.
The symbol in the front is a combination of a fish, which is a typical christian symbol, and.... a little bit of.... Star Trek.... :D
For cycling I have added some strips, so I can carry the guitar like a backpack.
And for dark winter nights I have included some reflection stripes.
I really like it, because it fits nicely to the western guitar and it's very practical. And it was cheap.... :P

Hello again,
After "a while" of small projects I can show you now some nice Quilts, which I have finished in the last days.
First: Jurassic Coast

Second: The sound of sea
Bargello pattern by Eileen Wright.
170x220cm, Batiks, thin cotton wadding, machine sewn and quilted.

At last, the "twins" together on one pic. ;)

Oooohhhhh.... :loveit:
-
Gorgeous - it would take me forever to make those. :S I envy your speed.
-
Thanks to both of you!! :)
The speed is no secret, until January I worked 45h per week, but now I'm sewing 8h a day :D There are 5 weeks left, then I won't sew any more for a long time (I'm afraid), so I have to make the most out of these weeks ;)
-
WOW!!!!!
Those are gorgeous honey .... Loving the view too.....
-
Gosh, my old bones would lock up solid if I tried to sew for 8hrs a day! :S A couple of hours of an afternoon is about my maximum, and even that is not all sewing - it's interspersed with pinning and pressing and those sorts of things. :)
-
Your quilts are wonderful. I was wondering how you found the time, until I read your last post. Enjoy your 5 week quilting ‘holiday’!
-
Did someone say twins?
-
@Sheilago: Thanks :)
Did someone say twins?
Only the quilts are twins, the "rest" should be only single :P
-
This is my most recently completed quilt.
It's my first 'braid' quilt and I didn't follow a pattern, so apologies if I've made any basic errors.
The areas where the braids appear to narrow are a ' design feature' 0_0 to account for me mis-cutting into the 2.5" strips, meaning that I could only get 3 braidy bits from the fat quarter rather than the 4 that I'd planned for. So I just designed around the problem.
-
So, this is the third Bargello this year and I think the last big patchwork project for a long time. May I introduce you to...
Landmannalaugar
180x240cm, sewn after a pattern by Eileen Wright.
Wadding: 3mm cotton Fleece
Backing: cotton sheets from grandma
Machine sewn and quilted
And thanks to Iminei :* I dared to quilt not only stitch-in-the-ditch and I used a multicolour thread.
It's not a present, it was ordered by DH and stays at home 0_0
-
Beautiful Sakar, absolutely gorgeous. :loveit:
-
Thanks :flower:
-
There were still some Batiks-fabric left, so I made some cushion covers for the owners of the Bargello "Jurassic coast" and "the sound of sea"
-
Beautiful, Sakar. So striking.
There is a Bargello supplement with this month's Today's Quilter magazine. It reminded me of your wonderful quilts.
