Sewing Machines / Janome 230DC
« on: July 19, 2021, 10:20:57 AM »
When I collect my replacement foot pedal from Franklins this week I am going to look at the Janome 230DC. It is a small step up from my Alfa and computerised which will be new to me. Has anybody had one or is using one now? I would appreciate your comments, thank you in advance.

In the wardrobe / Purple jersey trousers
« on: July 10, 2021, 15:55:32 PM »
Cut these out today with a little help from my friend. I got him to do most of the pinning and bending over the table and I managed the cutting out. Now to find suitable thread and a zip.

In the wardrobe / Another easy nightshirt
« on: July 01, 2021, 16:13:32 PM »
Cut out the cotton jersey with the cats on to make a nightshirt, an easy make using McCall's 6886 view B. Just a very long T-shirt really with long sleeves and very cosy for  the cooler nights.

Talking about buying fabric on your Hi! thread @Bumblebuncher  do you know if the old chap still has the fabric stall in Norwich Market? It has been a while since I have been to the market.

Tech Know How / Attachment problem
« on: June 25, 2021, 13:32:03 PM »
I have just added an attachment to my post in Fun with Fabric but it doesn't look the same in the text of the post. There is no thumbnail photo and you can't view the photo only download it. Has something changed or have I made a mistake somehow. Help!

Fun with Fabric / Grey wool fabric for skirt
« on: June 25, 2021, 13:21:53 PM »
I have ordered this wool suiting to make a circular skirt for colder days.

This is described as lightweight wool that looks like linen but doesn't crease. The grey colour will go with all different coloured sweaters so should be a useful addition to my now thinned out wardrobe.
Edit: Had a problem attaching photo so will add it later.
Ta da! I've done it.

In the wardrobe / Poppy skirt Simplicity 8128
« on: June 17, 2021, 15:01:06 PM »
I have cut out the pieces for this skirt at last  :) it took ages to clear the dining table and pull out the extra leaves. I sweated a bit wrestling with 3.5 metres of fabric. Now I've got to put the table back and return the fruit bowl and vase of flowers to their normal positions. The pinning and tacking I can do sitting on the sofa but not today. Another little hurdle overcome.

In the wardrobe / Summer skirt Simplicity K 8128
« on: February 13, 2021, 14:58:12 PM »
With help from my friend I cut out the semi circular skirt from the lovely lemons fabric. He helped with manipulating the 3.5 metres of fabric on the table, pinned the pattern pieces on and I did the cutting. All the time he kept muttering "this is complicated and you do this for a hobby?"
There are only four pieces to it, I chuckled but it was nice to have help. We are a bubble of two. He is the only person I see, I do talk to my neighbours through the kitchen window at a safe distance as they go by on their way to Asda or bus stop.
I'll be pleased when I feel OK to start sewing the skirt.

Fun with Fabric / Scuba
« on: January 01, 2021, 10:46:22 AM »
I keep looking at scuba fabric, I have never sewn with it. What is it used to make? It is listed with Ponte and double jersey so I assume tops, fitted dresses would be what you would make. What about trousers? Your comments please. Thanks.
