House Beautiful / Re: How is cushion piping made?
« on: Yesterday at 17:04:34 »
@JohnSnug piping is simply strips of fabric cut on the bias, which is diagonal to the straight grain. This is then wrapped around cord and stitched into a seam.

You can sew piping on an ordinary domestic machine very easily.

If you are a visual learner there are lots of YouTube videos that demonstrate the process.

Cutting the fabrics on the bias gives it the ability to stretch and so go round the corners of the cushion neatly.

Whilst piping isn’t difficult it might be better to try a simple envelope cushion cover first.

Lots of knowledgeable folks on here to help you on your way but be warned you might think you only want to do soft furnishings but we are very good at getting people to do far more than they originally planned

Very nice, bet that goes fast!

I am a big fan of

Her clothes seem it fit me and suit my lifestyle, think long tunic type things.

She has lots of patterns designed for colour blocking and I have used loads of off cuts making these. For some patterns she has printable sheets with line drawings so you can colour in the drawings to play with colour placement

This weekend’s project is to make DD and myself some fingerless gloves from knit fabric. I use this pattern
and they are a really good way of using up knit scraps.

@Starryfish that sounds very unpleasant, but hopefully everything is sorted now and you will get a good result next week.

Feet up and relax now

I bought a Babylock OL and it just works ! :VV:

No adjusting tensions or twiddling dials, thread it (easy) and then away you go. It gives a lovely consistent stitch and has sewn everything I’ve thrown at it.

Not computerised, just good engineering.

I’m planning to have several printed to keep down postage costs,

I’ve always stuck them together myself but have decided life is just too short now.  I aim to get ones done that I know I will use for both myself and my DD, then I can keep them as a master copy and just trace off the size I need.

I was going to use Flamingo prints but might have to give Plan Printing 24 a try.

Thanks @sewmuchmore very useful article.

Well that arrived very quickly  :thumbsup. Sturdier than I expected and fits easily under the desk.

The only trouble is I now fancy one for my reels of Mara but I’ve spent more than enough this month, perhaps I should drop a few hints for Christmas.
