How about Vogue 1564?

Unfortunately tied in the middle is the death for me, I would look like a sack of potatoes.  Best for me to hide the waist not emphasize it.  I like to Truffle coat apart from the line drawing doesn't show that much shaping.  Although it would hide a multitude of sins.  I do have an old McCalls and made the short version without ties, but not sure how I could translate to a zip fastening.  Also the Millerain fabric has a more utilitarian feel to it and more suitable to zip/stud fastenings.

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Re: Fat legs..

Now that's a really useful machine.  I wonder how much the whole job cost?  Actually I had that problem around Christmas 1993.  I was ill, no idea what at the time, but my hands feet and legs swelled up and my hips were killing me they ached so much. My boots at the time were actually crap and at the time, my heel wouldn't sink into the foot because of the  swelling.  A dose of steroids and I was back to normal and went out and bought a new pair of fur lined boots from Jones the Bootmakers.  I think at the time they cost just short of £150.  Still got them, hardly used them after because of mild winters although the leather is shedding colour.

A machine like that it could have repaired the very expensive (I was working then) bag I bought from Pro Idee.  Everywhere I went they said they hadn't got the machine and I needed a saddler.

I remember looking at the Kelly @Francesca, when I was looking before, but I also wasn't keen on having to pay extra for a lining, plus I wasn't that keen on the collar piece or hood, I like options, which the Tosti gave a lot. I want one that will give the option of longer length, zip front even if not full length, and a bit of shape without cord ties (my waist looks even bigger restrained).  Mind you, I've found more detail on the Truffle and there is an option for a normal collar so  unless I see something more tasty I think I may go with this one.

The designer hasn't given me the actual length but says pictures based on half leg and 5ft 9 in height so I should be okay.

Daren't put in on paper @Celia, in case I fail, but not sewing related. If I fail I will probably be that hacked (to put it mildly) that I will throw it all on sewing. :'(

I've had an unveiling today, first time I wore my Millerain Tostii, and in the light of a frosty morning, my bright red went down a storm.

The idea was to use the extra fabric I bought while it was cheap, for a raincoat.  I've seen this:

https://thesewingrecipe.com/en/product/trufflecoat_en/

Not keen on the hood but it does have a zip front.  Has anyone done this, seen reviews, or seen an alternative.

It's a case of eyes looking at the horizon even though I am a long way of making.

Fortunately I can't afford it at the moment, because it would be wasted on me.  :'(  I did hang my nose over your Bernina but have the need to accumulate some cash over the next few month for another of my heart's desires.   <3

Thanks, I never thought of that, it just looked a bit wide for what would have been a very expensive coat.

Is this how they are supposed to look in use?

In the wardrobe / Blown the budget, again
« on: January 14, 2019, 16:13:41 PM »
Over Christmas I have made a few purchases for next year.  Shouldn't have but feeling down it raised the spirits.  So I've got jacket fabric, dress fabric, lining fabric.  The jacket fabric I got it then changed my mind when I had a feel, not quite as stiff as I hoped (faux suede), bit on the floppy/flowing side.

I'd also been patterning hunting for a coat as the three I have seem more on the 'going somewhere  special' type and the fourth and fifth are more for up to your wattsies in snow type (I would add that one is at least 20 years old  and the other from 2005).  So I've gone for more casual and with a zip in the front (the amended Waffle Bamboo with the zip).  The latter I'd picked out some fabric but hoping I could buy in February when the slate is clear on plastic again.  I just happened to look today and they were down to around 5.5 meters so of course, loved the colour, just what I wanted and bought before I missed the boat.

Never mind, I've got a sewing calendar set up so at least I know what I'm doing  ;)

In the wardrobe / Re: Trying on...
« on: January 09, 2019, 10:46:54 AM »
I tend to pin and try on.  If it is a skirt what size I do depends on the pattern, Vogue seem generous, Butterick skinny, although some designers seem very generous.  Jackets I normally check the back pattern with a jacket that fits just right.  I came a bit unstuck this last summer, I seemed to retain water in all the heat.  What turned out on the tight side suddenly was just right.  Being a shorty, everything is too long, shoulders too wide and  arms too long.

There is a lot of whores drawers though, if it weren't for the fact I have to answer the door occasionally I'd just have the bare essentials on until I was sure it was a good fit.

Sewing Machines / Re: Sashiko Machine

I have absolutely no interest in crafty things but these machines  fascinate me, the stitches are so beautiful.  I've had a look at the videos mentioned, well you never know.

A Good Yarn / Re: How do you hold your knitting needles?
« on: December 21, 2018, 13:20:39 PM »
Never much thought about it but I hold both needles under my arm and use my  right index finger to wrap the wool without letting go of the needles.  My mother taught me and said it made for more even knitting.  I seem to remember it took ages to master but never forgotten. I used to get the knitting bug every so often, but to  be honest the sewing machine is far superior in production and wool makes me too hot.
