Ok let’s try this please post pickies of your current makes or just details if pictures are a problem. Maybe pictures of previous makes too.

My current project, is a Jacobean crewel work and I am very much a beginner in crewelwork.  I have also just started another beading project with very tiny delica beads do you think this will count?

As far as one I want to do in the future it is this one https://www.crewelwork.com/products/rabbits-at-dawn-kit

Embroidery and Embellishment / Hand or machine ?
« on: May 12, 2022, 10:27:28 AM »
I have just found a lot of my old embroidery things and am restarting my journey, I am starting with a crewel work design but

I am also drawn to silk shading has anyone done any? My only problem is it reminds me too much of machine embroidery so why don’t I just do it on a machine?   https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1863514708/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i5  I have thus book and have just found

Or should I stick to crewel work and if so does anyone have any favourites to share

A Good Yarn / Celia more knitting finished
« on: May 05, 2022, 09:13:03 AM »
This was a nice project to do, I was a bit fed up with my FI jumper and wanted a break so this is for a friends birthday.

It is made from sock yarn but knitted on a size 5 needle. I had to swap out my usual favourite metal needles for my bamboo as it kept slipping off the metal needles too easily. I will knit another one but might change the way it’s knitted a bit.

It is a free pattern from stylcraft https://www.stylecraft-yarns.co.uk/patterns?filters=83,84&yarns=266. It is the one called lace shawl.

Access All Accessories / Bags for life
« on: April 22, 2022, 11:46:30 AM »
I have just seen this book and am a bit tempted, I have lots of odd patterns for bags but I quite like the concept of full size patterns and all together in a book has anyone else either seen or got this book.

I am looking for some projects to do that are not too big as I have quite a lot of smallish pieces of fabric

Fun with Fabric / Organising fabric. Help needed
« on: March 25, 2022, 09:33:19 AM »
I am trying to organise my fabrics better, I did sort them recently but have decide they need more order.

As i have pruned my wardrobe a lot recently I was wondering if I could store some of the fabric hanging, as there is a limit to the length the fabric would have to be folded is the a good idea? Some of these pieces are big and quite heavy. There is a possibility I could get rid of one wardrobe and replace with something more suitable if I knew what?

I really would like to keep all of the dressmaking fabrics together, what do other people do?

When I was sorting them I did try to think wether I would actually like to wear then if a magic fairly arrived in the night and sewed them all up, its amazing how many fabrics go put on the go pile.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this if not could someone help

Well decision has been made I am going to sell the topaz, it is a sewing as well as embroidery machine, it is in excellent condition and has hardly been used, in my past life I used to teach these machines and only got this one not long before lockdown so it has hardly been used.

https://www.franknutt.co.uk/husqvarna-viking-designer-topaz-40

I do have the original boxes but would prefer it to be collected, if it is couriered it will be at the purchasers cost and risk.
I am asking £1450.00 for it and if it is collected I will throw in some extras.  This is a bargain and if I advertise elsewhere it will be for more, would just love it to go to a good home.

If you have any questions please ask.

A Good Yarn / Celia weaves again
« on: March 18, 2022, 09:48:39 AM »
I am back to weaving at the moment, yesterday I warped up a new sample for a log cabin design, I followed a free pattern but am glad I only warped up a small warp because it’s not great, although I love the pattern so more research is required to find a better method of warping.
Hopefully photos might follow later.

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / To Horn cabinet or not
« on: February 10, 2022, 09:50:07 AM »
I know both @Diane and I are both thinking about Sewing cabinets, I have decided I like my machine downstairs at the moment it is on my sewing table which I like but I do not like the purple legs in the middle of my living room.

What I am asking is if you have a horn cabinet how much do you like it, also if anyone has one of the alternative cabinets can you join in.

I had one years ago and found a problem with the leg room. The photo is of my present table but not where it is now.

A Good Yarn / Wrong instructions
« on: February 03, 2022, 11:42:59 AM »
Didn’t know wether to post this on here or on the rant thread.

I am knitting more socks, this time toe up and saw a heel I didn’t know called the origami heel, I have knitted it twice now and have realised the pattern is wrong so looked up another pattern and guess what that is definitely wrong when you get to the shaping it showed 2 rows as knit and there is no garter ridge in the sock.

I am about to go back to a heel I have done before.

Has anyone else had this problem, both heels were in books the first is this one. https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Socks-Carte-Toes-Choose-Patterns/dp/1440304262/ref=pd_sbs_4/258-5295160-3381812?pd_rd_w=avnCg&pf_rd_p=c07415a0-09a7-4604-aaca-c3fcee246443&pf_rd_r=HXJSZDYV6GVVHSWKTF5V&pd_rd_r=888c6519-d3f6-401f-ab82-adfcbb37cb27&pd_rd_wg=kbMGg&pd_rd_i=1440304262&psc=1  And just look at the price, I didn’t obviously pay that but would willingly sell it for that.

Current Projects / Ok I am trying
« on: January 26, 2022, 16:31:54 PM »
I am trying to do the cat that Sandra did but in different colours, yesterdays attempt left me giving up sewing for good but today I took a deep breath and tried again.

I found some fabric, then struggled to find any bondaweb eventuality had to raid a kit for some, drew out the pattern pieces ironed them on to the fabric, cut them out,  then the backing fabric didn’t work colour wise, not deterred I dove into my stash and found something ok. Then placed the cut out pieces on and just about to press and see what I have done

The brown pieces are cut out upside down

Maybe tomorrow or maybe not

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Overlocker home
« on: January 19, 2022, 10:30:37 AM »
As some of you know I am experimenting with sewing downstairs, if this works I might need to consider bringing my overlocker down but I am wondering how I could house it in my room.

I have a sort of sideboard that I am happy to get rid of and thought something like a horn cabinet but I don’t think it will fit, I would like to be able to put it out of sight but that may not be possible as it is very heavy and I find it difficult to lift.

It is a very large overlocker it’s a Babylock Gloria, I don’t really want to get a smaller one as it is really good

Any ideas anyone

A Good Yarn / New project fair isle. Update
« on: January 14, 2022, 09:34:17 AM »
This is my newest project, I will not knit the actual pattern as printed as I intend to try to knit the main body of the sweater on my machine and then hand knit the yoke, not tried this before so it is definitely an experiment.

I have ordered the yarn from Jamieson and smith, the other risk factor in wether it works or not is I have ordered the main colour on cone and the others is balls, as the cones are oiled and the balls not, I may need to make some adjustments as I knit.

If I was thinking about a new quilt cover for the bottom of my bed, the old one is beginning to go thread bare in places and I don’t think will last through another wash, I need help in nowing where to start.

I now the theory and can do most of the process but I cannot choose fabrics, I don’t want to spend a lot of money only to find I don’t like it.  I am looking at some thing simple in the way off blocks, either squares or rectangles or even stripes put together.  How many different fabrics do I need to use?

Either that or a scrappy quilt but I don’t trust my own judgement in colours.

It’s odd because give me wool and I have no problem choosing colours or designs but fabric floors me.

Any ideas gratefully received
