Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Funny Faces BOM
« on: January 17, 2022, 09:05:53 AM »
@Sandra i have just spent a lovely time looking at that site, I think I used one of her embroidery designs years ago but haven’t looked recently, her designs are lovely and such fun.

for anyone interested there are lot of free designs and ideas, I love this one https://www.shinyhappyworld.com/2018/05/make-a-wall-hanging-add-a-wonky-churn-dash-frame-to-your-favorite-quilt-block.html. @Diane  I think you might like some of these too.

I am tempted to try an easy block and make it into a cushion to go on my bed, so I am going back later to have a better look.

I have only had mine come undone once and I think that was me not tighten them enough, there are some available that lock in position.

I use mainly Chiaogoo and I also use tulip but not that often

These are my fav jeans/leggings I have several pairs and usually wear these when I go out https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-ultra-stretch-high-rise-leggings-trousers-445292.html
But I do have to buy them ex large and I am not that big. I wear a lot of boots so I need the ankles to be narrow or they don’t work.

These are my go to leggings, I would make them but the material is hard to find and would cost more https://www.marksandspencer.com/cord-high-waisted-leggings/p/clp60505858

I have also made lots of ponti Roma pants but they don’t stand up to the amount of wear I give them running around the house. I do still have them for smart going out wear, which of course I don’t do

A Good Yarn / Re: New project fair isle
« on: January 15, 2022, 11:36:33 AM »
@BrendaP yes that is my thought, if I can do this it will make a big difference to me as I don’t like knitting big sweaters by hand but I do love knitting Fair Isle by hand.  I first heard of this being done on the Shetland isles it is often the way they make the sweaters they sell.  I might have to adjust the number of stitches at the yoke to match the tension, I have matched machine tensions before but I might have to adjust number of stitches at the yoke.

@Ploshkin you just get used to working with the different colours, I do knit double handed so one colour on one hand and the other in the other hand if you see what I mean.

I hope to get started next week so I will post reports, the first step is getting my machine set up again.

@Bodgeitandscarper it is Shetland 2 ply which in fact is a 4ply, the pattern is in this months Knitter magazine but as I am using a machine as well as needles I will have to re write it.

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Re: Right needle thread keep breaking!
« on: January 14, 2022, 15:54:20 PM »
Check that the needle is in the clamp properly they should NOT be level it is an easy mistake to make also try a different thread just in case, I know it is working on one needle but sometimes this can be a problem.

I would not suggest taking it apart, just check that the thread is running smoothly through the paths.

Best of luck

@b15erk i could have written your post.

It’s all very well saying we should wear our nice clothes but I just don’t feel comfortable wearing smart dresses and skirts etc around the house especially with tights, for one thin I have a cat that loves to sit on my lap and climb up around my neck, also I am fairly active around the house usually climbing in an attic or crawling on the floor at some time during the day.

I tend to wear thick M&S cord leggings and a jumper for 3/4 of the year summer being the exception.  I think this year I am going to make a few summer dresses with the idea I will wear them at home so they need to be cat proof and very washable.  Bet I end up with long tops and leggings again.

That is beautiful.  I've earmarked a couple of jumpers like that myself but it would probs take me years to complete.

Yes not too sure which winter I will be wearing this :loveit:

A Good Yarn / Re: WINTER SOCK KNIT ALONG

I haven’t really tried any one these, the wool from Marriner.  https://www.marrineryarns.com/knitting-yarns/marriner-cosy-toes-4-ply-sock-yarn-100g-91.asp  is lovely and does seem to be a bit finer to wear but it is still of course wool.

If anyone else has tried the cotton/ bamboo types please let us know.

In the wardrobe / Re: Emilie turtleneck to try out new overlocker
« on: January 14, 2022, 13:20:09 PM »
Well done @bec, looks good.
Well you’ve already managed to do what everybody does when they get an overlocker……cut a hole in what you’re making.  But underarm is a good place.  Soooooo much better than down the front.

I remember slicing a slit out of the side of a skirt….. I think most of us have done it.  Looking for to seeing your next make, I love Jalie pattern for tops etc and stylearc for trousers, it’s just what fits me best.

That looks great, I have also made that top and mine came out much too big but I decided I liked it that way, I am going to make some more soon but will scale back the size a bit especially in a different fabric.

Embroidery Machines / Re: Craving an embroidery machine
« on: January 14, 2022, 11:33:30 AM »
Actually @Bill you aren’t so wrong years ago when it was difficult to buy individual designs and even before that when you had to buy cards to put in your machine they were often £50 + yes it was a collection but often you might only want 1.
I am sure there are a few of us on here that well remember that.

My first machine was Janome 8000 followed by a long succession of Brother, Bernina, more Janome then Husqvarna not necessarily in that order. The various systems where on the whole not interchangeable, I still have some remnants of older machines.

That looks nice @Sandra  I can see that sort of quilt with a fleece backing if you don’t want to use wadding, I am no expert and could be wrong but just a thought
