@RJR_38 I was going to suggest grunge!  It's one of my favorites. I buy 3 yard lengths, sometimes 4 yards of good blender or backing fabrics. Also binding fabrics if fantastic I'll get several yards.

My basic rule for many fabrics is 1 to 1¼ yards so it could become a pillowcase or 3ish yards if it would be a good look for summer weight crop pants. Moda grunge makes great casual pants.  :thumbsup:  I buy fat quarters of lovely fabrics I can't imagine actually ever using. It satisfies the acquisition urge without taking up much space. Many of all the above do end up in quilts but in case they don't I have enough for them to be useful in some other manner.

@Renegade Sewist Moda grunge is so much more affordable over in US (£8.50 per yard compared to £12 per m which is only a tiny bit longer). Whenever one of my American friends kindly gets some bit to post over for me I always ask them to get a hard or two of grunge to bulk up the package

I’m like fajita and do a mix. I buy less FQs than I used to because I tend to make bags more and they usually require a minimum of half m. I only buy FQs of fabrics I think I will use for EPP. I’ve been growing my collection of blenders by buying what I need for a project and adding mire (eg, need half m so buy 1m). This means the cost is spread out. My favourite is Moda Grunge but it is pricey for a blender

Yes, as a long term supply teacher, I finished on Friday when the children did.

I’m sending you  :cake: :cake: :cake: to help you make it through the week.

I hope to make the rest of my blocks over the next couple of days.

Thanks - with this heat I would rather have ice lollies (or cold  :gin: ) haha. Yesterday my office was 39c at one point and walking into one of the Y6 classes was like walking into a wall of hot, sweaty and smelly air :x

Not exactly conducive to packing up my office to move but I will get there…

Pearl these blocks look great! I am guessing all this sewing means you have finished school now? We have until Friday and I am crawling through lol.

I have done some more of Effie’s block which I am hand piecing but I admit to being distracted by making a clutch bag this wkend

@Catllar your blocks arrived today!

I made 2 more blocks this weekend. I apologise for the bad photography - the light is awful today! The blocks are actually much brighter and many of your fabrics have metallic gold running through them Fajita. Catllar, yours should have been more complex - in my head I was making 4 pinwheel 'blocks' interlocking together. Except I didn't;t realise they counted each quarter of the pinwheel as a block and I did't realise until I have cut up your fabric and it was too late! I hope it isn't too simple for you - it is very bright still. I will press both blocks properly before posting as well.

Website is all up to date

@Efemera your blocks arrived today!

Ooh I love it!

Ok ladies, you have certainly kept me busy on the gallery!
All updated now https://sewingplaceboom.weebly.com

@Efemera I'm just fussy cutting your fabric for an EPP block - a bit slower but hopefully worth it!  I have also just noticed that you used some pieces of gorgeous Tula prints for Fajita's block  :scream: I love the way you have mixed the Tabby Road prints in there with the Kaffe and the Disco kitties look amazing

Everyone has been so busy! Efemera I love the variety in yours and I particularly love the circular one.

@BrendaP your package arrived today and I made your block   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

@Pearl School is my problem too but we have 3 weeks to go  :boohoo:

42
Eek you are all so speedy! Work has been so busy I’m letting the team down and am the slowest haha.

@whofilets I just checked my junk mail and they were sitting in there - they look great and I love my block even if it is a duplicate pattern as it uses different fabrics.

I will update the photo albums again tomorrow. I hope to make more progress with blocks this weekend.

There is nothing wrong with simple blocks - this is meant to be fun and skill building for all (while hopefully using up some scraps haha)

As a non participant I am loving seeing all these imaginative blocks. Brilliant  :thumbsup:

@realale  we’ll count you in for the second one when we do it then!  :dance:

Ty @RJR_38

For Effies block - I saw the pattern (rock garden) in a book called 210 traditional quilt blocks. But the instruction part of the pattern, although heavy on photography for how to construct it, has a tiny (1.5” sq) diagram of the pieces. I did attempt to size up with a pencil and ruler, but am afraid I was a bit inaccurate and gave up. My husband stepped up and resized it for me. He took one quarter of it and sized it to 12.5”. I made a mock of this and decided it left too much blank in the centre. So he changed it to encompass all four quarters in 12.5”, including a quarter inch border.

I then pieced it on the machine. Did each quarter individually and then joined them with the dreaded diamonds.

What I also did, was mark the back of each individual piece with a pencilled in quarter inch border. This was great for better accuracy.

Such a lot of work and I am sure that Efemera will be very grateful!
