The first FPP block of the month!
I'll do one a month and take requests ;)
It will be easy blocks to start with and will work towards harder, more complicated designs. I will be turning the blocks into a sampler quilt, but you can do what you like with yours!
Anyone wishing to make the block send me a message so I can email you the pdf pattern to print out.
August - Double Tulip block.
This is a lovely block that can also be turned into a triple star if you make 4 of them.
As always, any and all questions are welcome. I'll also attempt to help with problems to the best of my ability.
Read and follow instructions carefully!

Very well written Tut Syrinx ... Thank you !
I shall be giving this a go later in the month ...
there were some gorgeous FPP quilts at the festival, Mariners compasses, New York Beauties
and of course this should be the foolproof way to make a stunning Storm at Sea!
-
Wow! Thanks for all the time and effort you put into the tute Syrinx. I have big plans for a Storm at Sea Imi and this makes it all seem do-able.
Your efforts are really appreciated by the lost and learning, dazed and confused! 0_0
-
No problem! I like FPP so not much effort to stop and take pictures :)
As soon as I decided to make the bits into a sampler I had to have a big mariners compass in the middle...
If any of the lost, learning, dazed and confused have any questions I would suggest asking before doing as mistakes on FPP come back to haunt you later on! (and try not to stitch a line more than once, twice if you have to - paper with holes in likes to fall apart!).
-
Hmmm, seems like something I might like to have a go at....
Must have a look at what quilting cottons I have. ;)
Just this one mind....
Jessie

Thanks for doing such detailed instructions Syrinx. I had a vague notion about how FPP was done but this makes it so clear. I will definitely be giving it a go.
-
Thank you Syrinx :)

Oh...POO! :(
Printer's not working, so I'm not going to be able to do this one. :'(
We've been without a printer for about 2 years now, so I really ought to think about buying a new one.

You could download onto a USB and go to your local print shop ...
or Syrinx could send you a template through the post ???

Toooo much trouble. :P ...(for me and for anyone else to have to mess about with printing off and posting. No...)
What I need is to buy another printer. It's been on my list for some time. My son mentioned us buying one just the other day...(he was talking about being able to print off his CV)
I didn't use it regularly, but I miss having one.

Oooh, that's clever innit? But no, I won't be trying it, far too fiddly for me, I have no patience. :P
-
It's one of those things that's easier to do than to read about. Give it a go, you'll be surprised. Just take it one step at a time and you'll be fine. Honest! :)
-
Goodness me, I go off for a sneaky overnight in Lincoln and come back to this. I intend to have a good read through and attempt it in the next few days.
-
Ok. I printed straight from the email on my iPad and it came out like this.
I'm not sure how to correct this, so will go and try on the big computer to see if it's the same. Wish me luck, lol
-
It depends on your settings - it needs to be printed at 'actual size'
-
Oh I hate computers. I really really hate computers. Big computer has problem with hotmail. Big computer needs updates. Big computer is updating. Big computer needs passwords and I get so frustrated because I can't remember passwords and I'm not supposed to write the. Down then you need to reset all the time with new ones. Just open you bleeping beepy oh I hate computers.
I'll be back with you. When the big computer decides it's updated itself and allowed me access once more. Think I'll go fry an egg. Brain food.
-
Ok, so I was keen to have a go, so whilst the big computer turns itself in knots upstairs I decided to have a go with the printout as it is. Here is my attempt. Trimmed to a quarter inch border.
As you say, far easier than it looks. Have a go, folks!
-
Very nice, Fajita. You have been very busy lately. You are putting me to shame. ;) (Don't you ever sleep?).
I'm trying not to get drawn onto this BOM as I have got more than enough on the go and I need to finish something before I start anything else.

Perfect!!!
May I now add mine?? not perfect, far from it but I enjoyed the process ...
(Sorry Girls I did this last month whilst Syrinx and I were tweaking the tut.)

Oh, the four together look fab-u-lous (and I'm trying so hard not to get drawn in).
-
As I said far, far from perfect and if I did it again or used it as the basis for a quilt I would recommend adding a thin sashing strip as my points did not match up at all, but that's probably just me and my splapdash eyes.
-
I think it was probably your squaring up Imi. Drawing the 1/4" from all sides and cutting like that is foolproof. The points should all match unless you weren't exactly 1/4" sa. Or your block sewing wasn't 1/4" ;)
You can actually leave the paper on until the blocks are all sewn together as well if you want to be super perfect!
The inner points are all lovely though!
Lovely job fajita! It doesn't matter if the print outs are a bit small as long as they are consistent and you're not too fussed about finished size not being 4"!
It's a lovely block and works really well with next months block when both are on point... ;)

Oooohh You Tease!!!!! :)
-
OK....No printer. No problem. :P
It's a very simple grid of 4" squares, so I drew it out by hand just so I could have a go.

(I did use two different fabrics for the flower but you can't see any difference....I'd know better in future.)

Gosh, you have been busy, I love it
-
Finally got round to mine. It is actually square, it's my placement on the board that's off. :(
-
Lovely SG <3
-
Thank you Lowena. Got to start on some FMQ practise now. I'm hopeless at that. :(
-
Errmmm Syrinx ... Will you be starting a BOMM HOF ???
-
Yes I am, but not been near a computer long enough to set one up! All on phone at the minute (hence checking but not posting much!) come Tues it will be sorted.

I found this yesterday if anyone's thinking ahead for C*******s. It takes 16 of ours and 4 with an extra set of leaves.
-
Can you please remind me what BOMM stands for? :|
BOMM = Block Of Mid Month
-
No idea, Imi added it
-
These are lovely and FPP is something I haven't done. Sadly I'm already behind on BOM and the Mystery quilt so I don't think I'll get round to this anytime soon. Somehow life seems to have taken over ;)
-
I'm following them all avidly Mali.....but (shhh..... ) producing nothing as yet ;)
-
Link doesn't work Wrenkie .... but maybe that's for the best, being the C word!
-
Block Of Mid Month
?............different I suppose, thank you -<
-
Sorry about that Imi. It works for me.
It's just a different way of arranging the blocks to form a "you-know-what" wreath.
-
Finally got round to trying this - my first time for FPP, I've never really worked out how it's done so thankyou Syrinx it's now crystal clear. I enjoyed doing it especially when I got into a rhythm but if I was doing any more I would have to move my cutting mat to beside my machine. As it is I had to keep getting up to go round the other side of the cabinet every time I trimmed. I did find it difficult to place the triangles to end up with enough seam allowance on the edge of the block. I know I've cut off my seam allowances along the top - I got carried away on the second one and tore off the paper before I had trimmed the block and then forgot to leave the 1/4" beyond the points.
Anyway, here it is.
-
What's happened to the FPP BOMM? Has it been moved and I've missed it? And the sandwich of the month as well? :S
-
I was going to ask the same thing?
-
I hope Syrinx is ok. Haven't seen any posts from her for a while.
-
I (think) I emailed her the other day asking if she was ok???
She last posted on here on the 18th September ... with any luck shes been off on her hols!
