In the wardrobe / Re: DGD3 is a natural
« on: June 05, 2017, 08:27:03 AM »
My mum is the best cook and baker and it's what she does to relax. I would starve to death if it wasn't for biscuits! I am lucky to be a very good baker but I don't choose to do it for fun, only if guests are coming.
However...
I sew, knit, crochet, cross stitch, tile, plaster, build kitchens.... I was gifted with "hands for anything".
I got the knitting from my mum, the crochet from my granny and I have a very crafty family. Of course it wasn't called craft when they did it, it was called necessity.
My friend couldn't hammer a nail into a turnip and has no interest so I taught all three of her children to knit. (Two boys and a left handed girl  :S).
At primary school we learnt to sew by hand and on treadle machines which were ancient even then but I loved it. I was first to master pulling the wheel to ensure I was going forwards and not backwards when I treadled.  :)
I made a blue flowery gathered skirt in school when I was 8 and cried when I finally grew out of it.
Give them a little taste of everything and they'll pick and mix.

Aha! So that's a 201. The same as my mum's when I was wee. The knee thingy fits in a clip in the lid.
It takes two men and a wee lad to lift it.
She's a beauty. Health to enjoy.  :)

Current Projects / Re: Which border???
« on: June 02, 2017, 10:02:24 AM »
If you add your red (say3/4") border it will increase the overall width by 1 1/2" and that'll knock your HSTs out of whack across the bottom. Am I correct DoB? Could it be simplified by putting bigger HST blocks in the corners? I cheated with mine and did a "strips" border down both sides and thenacross the bottom after I knew the final width.  :|

Fun with Fabric / Re: Indian Hand Block Print fabric

That company's feedback score is very low.  -<
As for the quality of the fabric itself...who's to say until you get it home and feel it but you can see at least two layers of pattern through it.
I would say it's very VERY fine but if you're prepared to risk a few quid, go for it. When I'm unsure I always ask myself " are you prepared to lose the money?" Often the answer is yes if I really really love the look of it and the good news is that sometimes it's not half bad!
That's me...living it on the edge!!!! HaHa!  :D
My advice to others, however, is as follows. If you buy cheap, you get cheap. :)

I'm with the others. 100% red. It gives better definition I think.

Forgot to say...stunning quilt RW.

I know I know. Sensible head on.
I had been looking at 12.5 but then I found these by accident.
I have this horrible feeling that if I buy one square, I'll suddenly need all the other sizes but as you say I've managed perfectly well so far.
12.5 it is...and 6x1 or 6.5x1.5 or 18x2.5................Now do you see why I can't choose fabrics for the mystery quilt.  :(

I didn't know there was a 6x1. (rats! Another one for the list).
I'm using a freebie wedge shape that I got with a magazine but being wedge shaped it brings it's own challenges!  :S There's a lot of winking and squinting going on to visualise a straight line!
I like the sound of that wee dinkie one.
I can feel my mojo stirring...it's been gone so long I thought it had died. You lot are inspirational!
