September is hurrying toward us and I need some ideas for the last blocks ...
I have 14 blocks so far and am going to make a 4 x 4 quilt so need at least TWO more blocks.
The more blocks you have made, the more choice you have with the composition of your quilt.
You can do a 3x3, 3x4 or 4x4 ...
There's nothing to stop you reproducing a block you particularly like or omitting one you dont (CoughCourthouse steps!!!) The more you have made, the more options you have!
But right now I need ideas for the last Two (or is it Three blocks ?) of this BOM
Over to you .....
-
I'm not participating but happy to have a look through my inspo 1000 block books if you like Imi?
-
Oh dear... I think I've missed one. I've only got 13. :(
-
I made two of the dratted courthouse steps ... a large and a small ....That may be the difference
-
What about disappearing pinwheel? The number of combinations for that are nearly as
bad many as log cabins.
Make a pinwheel, disappear it and then choose your own layout?
That may even be how my churn dash came about...just sayin.
-
Hi all, haven't really been around recently. Life getting in the way, I am afraid. Just wanted to add an idea or two. I love Wrenkins idea of some sort of pinwheel. What about a friendship star block?
-
Ooooo friendship block is one of my favourites. :loveit:

I thought these two were nice and one even has a friendship star within it. :)

Could go super fancy with tiny squares and do an Indian corn block
-
Sorry Syrinx We've had no pictorial blocks so far and I think the girls would Lynch me if I went down the teeny tiny squares route!
-
How about monkey wrench...or is it monkey puzzle? A curved one....hang on a bit, I'll look it up....
Oh!...snails trail? Thought it was monkey something-or-other. -<

A single MW does but its a big ugly thing on its own.
Its more difficult than you think, wot wiv me being Maffs challenged and all
-
I have a book with 12" blocks. ..brave world,cog star,hpurglass,cactus pot
-
I'll look in my inherited books, thousands of block ideas in those!
-
I'm a bit late in this conversation but I would like to suggest a pinwheel if some sort as a lot of designs seem to use them
ps Friendship star would be interesting as well -
-
Found a pinwheel type block and it's 12 ins
It's called Turnstile
-
I am rested and gearing myself up for round two with Fu Man Chus Fiendish Puzzle block ....
It nearly had me in tears yesterday afternoon so the likelihood of it being one of next months Blocks is receding rapidly in the rear view mirror ... which is a pity as it really is a very pretty block.
I really should hoover around but this seems to have become a challenge ... to the death!!!
-
No, noooooo.....you shouldn't be getting in a state over these blocks.
Just tell us to find our own for the next month or something.

@Sandra good idea -
I had already thought I may make a block to make up the number as one of the earlier ones I don't like and don't really want to use it.
Would still like some guidance though and will, of course, follow any new BOM you post
-
I don't know if you've browsed through the 2017 and 2018 BOMs, Bjay - you will have all the instructions you need and may find something you really fancy.

Good idea...And if any of them are smaller than a 12 inch finished block, maybe put a border around it to get it up to size? I seem to remember them being various sizes.
I really liked the card trick one....I've just checked that one and it's finished size was nine and half inches. That ought to be easy to enlarge to get it to 12" finished.
Anyway...don't stress Imi. It's lovely what you've done for us so far. It's less lovely if you've been left close to tears because of it.

I have done a quick search for 12 inch blocks and found one called "folded corners" it looks really good.
-
Please don't cry. :'( We can make stuff up and anyway we have done loads.
-
Oh I'll be alright Ladies and Ive completed One Block for you to make come September
That folded corners looks good, all to do with fabric placement to get the effect but simple enough ...
Panic not ... There will be the final Piecing to do come September 1st
and I may just challenge the Bravest of you to make Fu Man Chu's fiendish Puzzle block (Aka the Satanic Block)
Mwahaha
-
Can't wait - I think
I won't be here for a few days at beginning of September so hopefully all problems will be sorted and I can sail through it when I return!

It's good, isn't it?
-
That’s a great resource. Thanks, @Lilian . I’m going to give the entwined star a go. :)
-
:) I seem to do more searching than sewing lately >< I fully intend to do all the blocks - sometime
-
I can relate, @Lilian . I spend too much time watching people make quilts on YouTube. :|
-
I did look at that one @Pearl it's an interesting layout :loveit:
-
You could do a celtic knot or variant of easily at 12". It's always very striking with the right fabric.
