Prima Magazine just arrived in the post and has a very easy looking pattern for a top or dress.
I like the blouse and the maxi dress , but not the tunic length as it'd just cut me in half.
No darts I notice, which isn't a big issue for me, but might not work for others.

The fabric suggestions are:-
viscose, silk, tencel, soft fine cottons such as lawn,
which doesn't feel very Januaryish to me, though I would wear a light blouse with long sleeves and add a cardigan jacket on top.
-
Ooh - and squinting at the small print shows me that you can have a hard copy of the pattern for the cost of the postage - £1 - if you go to https://www.hearstmagazines.co.uk/prima-pattern-january-pri

Well noticed @Acorn, that's good if others want to sew it as well.
-
Thank you @SewRuthieSews and @Acorn. I've just broken my pattern buying moratorium for 2022 :[ I did find a pound coin in DH's dirty jeans recently though 0_0
-
It was a present from DH then! No broken buying moratorium!! :thumb:
-
I have this pattern as well, not likely to us it so if anyone wants it, free no pp, then let me know before it goes to charity.
-
My Prima came today too. I do like the blouse and have some suitable fabric so might be giving it a go :)
-
Beautiful and very stylish outfits ♥️ I think for those who would like darts just adding a belt to the dress and tunic would be a great option. In any case it would look fantastic.
-
I have been for a rootle in the fabric tubs and found some fabric I'm willing to sacrifice for a test of the pattern.
Its a pale pink with a white check.
I've just measured it and there looks to be enough for the long sleeved blouse version.
I'll see about tracing the pattern off tomorrow and have a go at cutting it out.
-
Pattern traced, fabric cut out and blouse a good way constructed hopefully a photo tomorrow.
-
collar and cuffs/sleeve bands done, just need to hem it today and will share.
-
Here's the finished blouse from the front and side.

I played a bit with the seam allowances so my collar is a bit taller than the pattern. Overall I quite like it.
-
Looks great @SewRuthieSews . When I saw the Prima pattern in your first post I thought 'yuk, a lampshade dress' but your blouse doesn't have the gathered layer. I know the layers are very 'now' but I was around in the 70s
-
@SewRuthieSews
That's great and a lovely colour.
I'm wondering if viscose (which has good drape) would be a good option for this blouse?
-
Hi @annieeg
The fabric suggestions are:-
viscose, silk, tencel, soft fine cottons such as lawn
So yes I would think so. You might want to interface both sides of the collar for stability and try not to overhandle to avoid too much fraying.
I found the collar really fiddly to do and did hand tacking before the stitching (as pins were too long), slipstitch on the inside and then topstitch on the outside so it'll hold up through the wash and me wearing it (I'm quite hard on clothes).
-
@annieeg my pattern arrived today and the suggested fabrics are viscose, silk, tencel, soft fine cottons such as lawn. I purchased the pattern purely for the blouse. I have some nice viscose that has been waiting patiently for a project.
-
That looks like a really useful top @SewRuthieSews , and I love the sleeves. I've not made a Prima pattern for years, I may have to think again.

-
@coffeeandcake @Lilian
looking forward to seeing how your versions come out.
-
Sorry, @SewRuthieSews I've just realised that you'd already posted the info about suitable fabrics yesterday
-
@coffeeandcake no worries - the good thing is we both gave the same answer!
