Fun with Fabric / Another jersey question
« on: March 21, 2018, 17:10:37 PM »
Going round in circles looking for nice quality plain t shirt fabric in jewel colours. I don't want anything shiny, drapey or too stretchy or nylony. I have tried all the usual suspects, Minerva, Fabworks, Sherwoods, Textile Centre just to name a few.
Anyone any suggestions.

I've found the most important things to remember are to use good quality needles of the correct size and type and also to use stretch thread in the looper.
Thanks for info on stretch thread, I have just bought a coverstitch so will order some thread for the looper.

I use Madeira for general sewing but only because In the recent past I won a treasure chest and then and then a classic 30 box so enough thread to last a lifetime. Funnily enough my embroidery machine doesn't like Madeira so use Brother or Isacord and Poly from Tysew for the overlocker £5 for 4 reels

I have made V1297 and it turned out great.  I made it for a friend and she says its invaluable for slipping over swimwear when going from pool to restaurant/bar on ship.  Don't think she had the gathered bits on it though.

I have in the past made a few versions of this pattern and it fits beautifully but I just don't lead the sort of lifestyle any to wear long dresses.

@SkoutSews  we might be related if we were both part if the More clan but my name comes from the name of the place in Ireland where one of my grandmothers was born.  :D
@SkoutSews and @Tamnymore and I am from the Booth Clan, Yorkshire through and through. The first Booth every to be recorded was in Yorkshire in 1274. It literally means cow house. Please keep your cow references to yourself I have heard them all over the years  ;)

Nice one- this caught my eye too.  The sleeve tucks are GORGEOUS.  Is the mistake that you flipped left for right?  Single layer should always be cut  on right side of fabric.  I think.
The pocket is great
Yep, I did cut out on right side of fabric but then put a chalk mark indicating it was the wrong side. Didn't realise until it was made. But, hey who cares, I do like to break the rules  ;) the fun in making your own clothes is you can do your own thing.

Thanks every body, I have umned and arred for about 6 months, would it get used? what else will it do? do i sew enough jersey to justify expense? etc. etc. Should i buy second hand to start with, I thought about @Efemera selling hers when she had upgraded.

So today went cruising round tinternet just to see what there was/compare etc. and low and behold a Janome 2000cpx fell into my shopping cart. It is a re-boxed but selling as new from Tysew (who i have bought machines from before, very efficient) at £399. RRP £499 and it has been dispatched already.
