Patterns Discussion / Re: Help! Looking for a boys Blazer Pattern
« on: January 27, 2021, 16:31:26 PM »
I know you said you prefer not to trace but if you are going to trace a Big4 pattern any way have you considered Ottobre Kids Magazine.  Back issues cost about the same as an envelope pattern but as a bonus you get alot of other children's patterns as well.  The 06/2014 and 06/2018 issues both have boys blazer patterns.  You can take a look HERE

They are great @Stitches.  I love the colours.  Knitting socks is oddly addictive isn't it?

Never mind - saved me from myself  :D

Hi @Starryfish What size is the Vogue 8804 jacket pattern - if it is the 14 -22 size I would be interested if no-one else has beaten me to it.

Regards

@BrendaP I like your sock pattern especially the toe shaping which looks rounder than the wedge  shape I was working.  Your advice on stripe and pattern matching is great too - I just started at the beginning of each ball and and kept going to the toe.

@Deafoldbat It is good to get some feedback on some of the other patterns in the book. I have been thinking about trying the rib socks at some point.  I really love the cable socks but I have enough coordination problems juggling 4 dpns without adding a cable needle to the mix  0_0

@Celia - thanks so much for the link to the short rows tutorial.  It was exactly what i needed. What a wonderful resource Very Pink is, both the videos and the blog are going to be very useful in the future.

@Deafoldbat - I was planning to use the toe-up instructions in Custom Socks as I find her patterns easier to follow than others I have looked at.  When I was doing some practice heels and toes I didn't get on very well with the standard wrap and turn short rows so I thought German short rows might be worth a try.

Inspired by @b15erk I thought I would try knitting socks.  Until now I have only knitted rectangular things since I learned to knit at the start of the first lockdown so this was something of a challenge.  These are cuff down socks from a basic pattern in Kate Atherley's Custom Socks book.  My family call them my Fungus the Bogeyman socks but I think they're just jealous.

I was going to try toe up socks next but I can't get my head round german short rows.  Does anyone know a tutorial that shows how to do german short rows with English rather than continental style knitting?

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Re: Britannia Coverstitcher
« on: October 12, 2020, 14:49:57 PM »
I have one as well.  I am very happy with it.  It takes a bit of practice to get the stitch right for every type of fabric and I make more test samples than I do with my sewing machines or overlocker but it does make a nice finish especially on knits.
I have tried a couple of other brands at shows and could see little difference in the end results although as usual a top end machines are smoother and more polished to use than the cheaper models.  I could only just afford the Britannia and all the others were well out of my price range.

The Hermes man delivered Birds in the Air here yesterday.  It is even more stunning than pictures can show.  The handquilting is so precise that the back is as beautiful as the top.

We are auditioning different locations for a permanent home but this is my favourite so far.  As you can see we are very fond of bats    :)

I'm the other very lucky winner. Birds in the Air will have pride of place on the only settee the dog doesn't lie on.  Photos will follow.  Mr Wolf is concerned that this is going to seduce me to the Darkside.  He's usually right.  0_0

That is a great shirt and lovely fabric.  I am in awe of the pattern matching on the fronts.  Wear it with pride!

Publications / Re: Threads Magazine
« on: July 04, 2020, 09:45:53 AM »
If it's the cost of printing that is the issue you could try using a virtual printer to save the article to your computer.  Windows has one called Microsoft Print to PDF that I use a lot for saving online invoices and other items that I used to print out.  All you have to do is select the virtual printer rather than your actual printer and press PRINT.  You'll be asked to select a file name and a location to save the document to.  If I remember rightly the actual magazine doesn't contain all the articles that are available on Threads Insider so that might be a issue too.

The Haberdashery / Re: Wax Tracing Paper
« on: June 25, 2020, 12:37:54 PM »
The best affordable wax tracing paper I have found is this from Burda.  The sheets are folded not rolled but in practice I find it makes little difference.  I tend to use the yellow rather than the white because my colour discrimination isn't great but both work perfectly well.
