Title: Janome 2 year warranty
Post by: Scotanne on June 29, 2019, 11:35:06 AM
I have been sewing for 40 plus years.  I treated myself to a new Janome M200 QDC 14 months ago and it’s been a great machine but it’s now being repaired by the shop.  Warning!  I thought I’d be covered by the 2 yr warranty but no, it’s user error according to the shop and Janome.  Some thread has got caught in the links behind where the thread goes up and down.  Apparently this is a known issue with any make!  My gripe is that if it’s a known issue why do users not have access to this area to remove thread before it seizes up the machine.  I’ve asked for a sample of the thread so I can identify which one has created the jam. I had no problem with my old New Home machine and I wish I’d tried to get it repaired as the motor was fine.

Sometimes depends on the dealer. We would often put this sort of thing right.   It it does depend on the thread used.  We used to have some machines in with major problems and the only common denominator was this dreadful thread that people’s were using.  Never understand why people spend thousands on a machine and then try and save a few pennies buying rubbish thread!

Try contacting Janome and discuss it with them. You can raise the question about it being a known issue and the inability to access the area where the thread has been caught. I'm not sure in your case exactly where the problem has arisen.

Like most people I'm sure, I've had occasions when thread has caught, usually below the feed dogs and occasionally some miniscule piece of thread somewhere in the shuttle race/hook area and the machine malfunctions, frustrating as it can be, I've always managed to clear it eventually. OK I've sworn a few times, cursed myself for loading a bobbin which hadn't wound correctly.

Janome said it was user error or the thread so not covered by the warranty.  The thread is caught behind the thread take up.

I use Gutterman, Glide Trilobal and Sulky threads.
I clean the feed dogs and under the bobbin regularly.
For me the experience has taken the sparkle out of sewing and my new machine.

I have had this problem with my Pfaff 1475 (an old lady), and it was easy to access and remove via the little door for the light switch, and by taking the lid off.

Do modern machines not allow this?  It's such an easy fix.

My 40 year old machine had a hinged door.  The new one doesn’t!

I had exactly the same problem with my Brother machine. The shop said I had threaded it incorrectly.
