Title: It is wonderful!
Post by: Catllar on June 19, 2017, 20:55:58 PM
My buttonholer for my Singer 15 - it arrived this morning and I totally love it - there will be many buttonholes from now on, just because I can! :vintage:

It's great isn't it when instead of shying away from buttonholes you actually want to do them 0_0 :vintage:

The buttonholers are fine. I have to track down a set of templates for my black Singer attachment. It has a few keyhole shaped options. The one with out templates are nice, it can be finely adjusted for size needed. I think the later Panoramic and the Proffesional have a few extra large cams. I think Jessie manage to get one just a week or two ago.

Ah now you see  you are all speaking a language of which I know nothing - I just contacted helen Howes and asked  her for a buttonholer and was told she recommends a BH007 Black buttonholer, which is what I got. Once I'd  read the instruction booklet a couple of time ( floored me at first it being written in English) and had a fight moving the thread cutter up a bit higher it was all very simple!.  Do I need another toy then ?? :)

you dont need one of these... I have one because i like gadgets :) and spotted one with 9 templates (tenth was in the machine! soooo lucky)

The Griest Rotary Buttonholer, they are less flexible than the one you have, however they do operate on 'templates' and the templates allow keyhole buttonholes, and eyelets if you have the templates, the downside is that the gadget only makes the buttonholes in the size of the templates.

Hevsi wrote about them: https://edsmum.wordpress.com/2010/11/07/griestgreist-template-buttonholer-attachment/ (https://edsmum.wordpress.com/2010/11/07/griestgreist-template-buttonholer-attachment/)
and this is good too with some nice pics: https://patternscissorscloth.com/2012/01/29/new-gadget-greist-buttonholer/ (https://patternscissorscloth.com/2012/01/29/new-gadget-greist-buttonholer/)

On the upside Griest being an independent manufacturer (having left Singer) produced a wide range of ingenious parts and gadgets that were rebranded for the major suppliers, I recently found a Kenmore branded one of these very affordably. The downside I couldn't see a good one on ebay at the moment...

I have a number of Singer buttonholers - Professional, Autopilot, as well as the one for low shank straight stitch machines and the one without templates - and am more than happy with the buttonholes they make.
Here one done with the Singer Professional Buttonholer in contrast colour (inspired by the red buttonhole I made on Mr Manuel's Sherlock coat)
