For long straight sections of stitching, would Quilters Tape be an option?

If you don’t see yourself leaving the darkside anytime soon, I would recommend buying a bigger ruler. You can get rulers that are 6.5” wide but I prefer to have an oversize ruler for the size I’m cutting so I don’t have to line up the edge of the ruler with the edge of the fabric.

A 12.5” square ruler would allow you to cut 6.5” WOF strips if you fold the fabric in four and would also be useful for squaring up blocks and quilts. For cutting the squares from the WOF strip (or from scraps), a smaller square may be more manoeuvrable.

If you do decide to get another ruler, I would recommend sticking to the same make as your existing ruler.

@Bjay I'm getting serious scrap envy.

I gained some more scraps at the quilt group meeting at the weekend which were left over from a quilt, so I will probably use these for the first of my first scrappy quilts.

I've posted this pattern on the sewalong thread and will be making a Scrappy Happy Rails quilt. The original pattern uses 12" blocks, but I might go for 9" blocks which this blogger has used.

@Celia It is obvious that Bill is very pleased with the machine. I do hope that the empty space where it used to be has bought you equal happiness.

Can't believe there's no button foot with it though. Wth were Bernina thinking? Luckily, I can actually sew on a button by hand so that'll do till I save the millions needed for the Bernina foot.

@Acorn The only advice I can give is don't try to dry the hair by putting the doll in front of a gas fire. I did this with my Tiny Tears doll many moons ago and she had to have a head transplant.
