It's your sewing habits ( not your social standing ) I'm after....
This afternoon I actually did some sewing  :faints: (too damp to garden ). It set me wondering about sewing habits of Darksiders, as I know nothing about garmenteers.
Which speed setting do you use on your machine? Are you a fast sewer or do you go slow?
When piecing small shapes I set on 2 ( mid speed ) and when attaching binding, backing etc I use 3....yep,I'm that speedy  :D I never use 1  :embarrassed:
I do pin, but away from the edge as I sew too quickly to take them out as I go. I can't bear doing things s l o w l y
I like things to proceed at a zomp!
What are your sewing habits?

The above company at Tiverton Devon have some new, beautifully coloured sock wool in. It's so lovely I was tempted even though I couldn't knit a sock to save my kidney  :D
I get e mails from them as I've used them and love their alpacas
:loveit: so I thought I'd give a heads up

I thought it would be interesting to see how you go about "squaring up" It's easy to make your blocks a tad too small...or large. How do you regulate things?
When your top is finished.....ditto?
Please share your tips and advice. We can all learn something and everyday is a school day ;)

I'm making a quilt for a friend's 7Oth birthday in July. Because there's no hurry and because it's a pattern I've done before, I'm very slow in getting it completed. I need a shove to get it layered and bound.
I need to finish it before I can begin anything new.
I also need inspiration.....so....  Please show me pictures of your favourite quilt.....or, ideas for interesting colourways.....or, a pattern new to you.......or, some inspiring fabrics I might not usually choose.......or, anything that might get the adrenaline going
Please......no applique or fpp
Please friends....I need  you  :grouphug:

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Choosing a Pattern
« on: March 16, 2022, 09:53:47 AM »
I'm coming to the end of a quilting project and beginning to think of my next quilt.
How do you choose which pattern to follow?
I've looked through my books, looked online and Pinterest and nothing grabs me!
I have the money to buy appropriate fabrics, the wherewithal to adapt a pattern if necessary ...but.....nothing enthused me  :(
How do you decide??

Does anyone do this? I think I would like to give it a try but am unsure as to what bits of equipment, such as hoops and frames are essential.
Any tips on execution, suppliers, kits etc welcome

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Do you starch.......
« on: January 02, 2022, 14:16:22 PM »
 and if so, when?
I've never starched fabric for piecing but have noticed that a lot of people do, and swear by it as an aid to accuracy.
Do you starch your fabric?
Some starch before they begin and some starch blocks before joining......do you do either?
Pros and of very welcome  :sew:

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / I need ideas
« on: March 18, 2021, 11:32:40 AM »
I've ground to a halt! :S
I need help!
I don't want to do anything ( pattern )I've done before, nothing too easy and straightforward but nothing too difficult.
The jewel / star blocks I just can't get my head round.
I've searched online but nothing grabs my attention  :'(
What's your favourite or go -to block?
How do I beat this malaise?
What do you do when you find yourself in a similar situation?
H.E.L.P. Please  <3

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Fabric habits
« on: January 19, 2021, 15:09:32 PM »
I never pre wash fabric, never starch and never press seams open .
Lately I have been reading that people usually do all those things.
I know why they do, but wondered what was the norm on here
