In the wardrobe / Re: Prima Coatigan pattern for £1.99 (UK only)
« on: October 18, 2020, 12:15:10 PM »
Oo thank you. I’d like that.  :)

I now need to figure out buying suitable fabric.
The pictures look like a knitted cardi but as I’m going to have to buy it online, what types of fabric names shall I use when searching online? I’ve bought Ponte Roma before. Is this suitable or would you choose something else?

@SewRuthieSews

Are Prima patterns easy to follow for beginners? I don’t have a lot of experience with patterns but I fancy trying this one.

I love the floral/skull fabric of the mask/head thing on the one person.

Yes, it’s a lovely cotton. I’ve got that fabric print and have made masks in the pink, black and the turquoise version of it.

I forgot to add that I like her YouTube channel and in particular, her bags re-using old denim jeans.

Another similar style channel is this one.

@Vezelay  I like that, very much! It’s looks quite complicated though? Was it straightforward to put together?

Funnily enough, I was contemplating whether to buy the poppers set in Lidl yesterday but I couldn’t think what I’d use it for.... Oh dear  :)

I’ve made a few of these now as they’re really easy, no zips required and my phone slides neatly in the front pocket. I also don’t bother with a full purse but a simply sewn zipped purse for notes and cards.

(I think our American friends call purses wallets?)

Sewing Machines / Re: Our Sewing Machines

Erm, I clicked Old Singer because you don’t have an option for old Japanese HA1 machines, (that look like a Singer Class 15).  :S

Sewing Machines / Re: Anyone used Necchi Q132a? Looking for a new machine
« on: September 06, 2020, 08:54:21 AM »
Sorry, I’ve no experience with Necchi. The sewing teacher at the class I used to go to provided Husqvarna Emerald sewing machines for the class as she felt they were straightforward to use and very reliable. I certainly found it easy to use so I’m sure you won’t be disappointed if you decide to choose that model.

Regarding your current vintage machine. They’re fabulous straight stitchers and easy enough to service so definitely keep it as your spare. However, I’m pretty sure that the term ‘semi-industrial’ is a recently made up term used for marketing purposes to convince people to buy older sewing machines. The clutch motors and gearing on an actual industrial sewing machine are completely different to a domestic sewing machine. Domestic machines can do up to about 1600 stitches per minute at best, whereas an industrial stitches at 5000plus SPM.
I think it’s a bit like calling a 4x4 car a semi-truck, when it bears no real resemblance to a truck at all in terms of power.

However, there are other far more knowledgeable experts on here who might want to correct me if I’m mistaken.

Well, I think that’s what it is, having scoured lots of online pics.

I fitted the new motor, re-wired in the lamp, fitted a new led bulb and oiled it and blow me, it sews!  :loveit:
