@Tamnymore . Your coat is so lovely and beautifully made too. I think your fabric is so well chosen and the colour really suits you too.

Thanks for V2973 it arrived today. It'll be a fun challenge to sew!

Yes, it looks a great pattern . I was hoping  to get it to make it for my niece who is a dancer and teaches dance in Australia. She does an awful lot of charity work and I thought it would really suit her.  I’ll see if I can draft something up as I can’t see the same pattern online atm. You’ll have to take a picture of your make once it’s done if you can. I would love to see it made up. It’s a lovely design.  Lizzy  :)

Last call for the remaining patterns.  If no response by the end of the week I will offer them to my local secondary school, else send them to the charity shop.

I’m sending you a PM re the pattern I asked for . I would still like it. Thanks .

A BBC local radio station is attempting to crochet its way into the history books by breaking a new world record.
BBC Radio Derby is seeking volunteers to try to break a Guinness World Record for the most people simultaneously crocheting.
The station said it needed 605 people to take part if they were to break the current record.
That was achieved by The Singleton Crafters in New South Wales, Australia on 30 April 2017.

@HenriettaMaria

I thought they had all gone? There is one I think I would like to have if it’s still available.  V2471? Actually V2973 is good too. I couldn’t see what size the pattern was. I’ll have another close look at your posts. Thanks .

@So Chic  Exactly my situation too.  If I get no takers here I'll next offer them to the textiles teachers at DS's old school.

If you want to make one @SewRuthieSews , the whale block that was my inspiration is called ‘Preppy the Whale’ by Elizabeth Hartman. I just worked out the whale dimensions myself and put a border on the quilt, copied from another whale quilt  that I saw online.
@ Sheilago

What a lovely elephant quilt.  It’s reminded me that I bought a set of acrylic templates in a case which included a similar elephant.I just remembered it when I saw your completed quilt. I never used them either  but I liked the templates then but where they are I have no idea but am going to have a search for them at the weekend.

Maybe give him that link?  Should keep him busy for a bit and leave you in peace ?

“ For those of us haven't been trained to use expensive software, this planning process will usually simply involve finding a pad and pen (or even using an old torn envelope from recently delivered mail). However, with the new bathroom planner tool from Victoria Plum, you can create realistic 3D designs in just a few minutes. Simply click on the image below to begin designing (there's even step-by-step instructions and a handy video, should you need them).”

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Re: Janome Finesse 234
« on: January 22, 2022, 01:44:13 AM »
The lady I bought it from is indeed from South Africa, so that makes sense then. As for warranty? I think by the styling of the manual and the machine itself I'd say it was vintage 80s or 90s at the latest so I'll not worry about that I think.

That solves the riddle then about the overlocker. I maybe, didn't explain myself so well but the reason I meant to look up further info from the manual was to work out where the model may have come from but it seems the Janome Finesse may be imported and sold under licence in South Africa. I couldn't work out the age of the model you have but would imagine the Janome overlockers in the UK must have/had a similar model but doesn't have the word  finesse in its title?

My first overlocker was a Janome (I still have it) and Janome are a great make. Should last you a long while.  :)

Hi

I've just bought a second hand overlocker, a Janome Finesse 234, and I was just wondering, is it a good machine? I can't seem to find much info about it.

I'm guessing it dates from the 80's? Not sure, I can't find any dates on it or the manual.

I did a bit of googling about and it does seem to lead to Janome in South Africa?  If it looks ok and works well then yes it is a bargain.  Maybe have a look at Janome overlockers here in the UK and see if any share some similarities to your overlocker?  Does your manual hold any clues as to where it may have been made or where to send it back if it needs to go back under warranty etc? Or any contact numbers etc?

I think the problem is that one is visible to all, and the other isn't, so combining them will either make posts public that were made in the private part of the forum, or cut off those who can't read the the Today Thread...

And here's the worry about all this now as well?   Makes you wonder why a thread wasn't put up prior to the changes. Then everyone could have discussed any changes out in the open in one thread. Rather than have some members wonder what on earth had happened when the 'Today' thread just appeared to disappear?  I thought that was an unkind thing to do if I am honest.

13
Some settings have been changed to restrict who can see the Today thread. It has been changed (at the moment) so that it is only viewable by subscribers.

Oh! Nice to know after searching away for some time, like @Sewingsue.

Private Club then lol.

Am happy to have two boxes if they are spare but is ok if only one box.

Embroidery Machines / Re: Craving an embroidery machine
« on: January 18, 2022, 20:22:59 PM »
These are fairly old machines @annieeg.  Where have you seen one?

I think the janice 350e must be discontinued now?
See this link for john lewis. how old the link is I don't know but searching around this machine isn't available anywhere new.

https://www.johnlewis.com/janome-memory-craft-350e-embroidery-machine/p230556765

I found this link  though for other machines.

Not much choice but maybe the brother one ex display or preorder might do instead?
