So despite my children not knowing what it was supposed to be, here is my block.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Spring Green Polka dot

Imi, while I was looking for fabric for the BOM, I found this.  Any good?

Edit - Now  I've posted it, the colour doesn't look right.

It would be nice to think there'll be something similar next year although I know it's a huge amount of work for whoever's doing the tutorials.  :S

Maybe we could do a block each and spread the load, if people wanted to do a sampler quilt.  Huge thanks to you, Imi, for all your work in bringing these to us.

Current Projects / Re: Four Patch Chain

Thanks, Low.  You think templates are too fiddly for you?  Yes, me too!   :D

Maximum, the templates do make the cutting more accurate, but they are very fiddly.  If I were to make anything with so many parts again (I won't), I'd use FPP.  Some of the blocks have (for example) flying geese.  I have a preferred method for making them which doesn't involve cutting and piecing lots of triangles.  There are 14 different templates and 9 different fabrics.  :o :S :P

Here is block 2.  I'll take more later.

Current Projects / Four Patch Chain
« on: November 29, 2017, 09:42:51 AM »
Well, there is only one more session of my Four Patch Chain BOM class.  In last week's class, my classmates were putting on their borders and basting, while I was finishing the last of my blocks.  I fell behind when I missed a couple of classes early on and never really caught up but now the end is in sight.

Today I am going to piece the sashing.  The first instruction is cut 124 triangles and I've done that!

I'm starting this thread in the hope that it will spur me on.

Here is one of the blocks.  They are all made with Marti Michell's templates (never again!).

A Good Yarn / Re: My Knitting Journey HAS Finished I Fear

A stitch holder is like a giant safety pin.  I'm sure you'd manage.   :)  As for picking up stitches, there's bound to be a YouTube video.  IMHO, a jumper would be simpler than toys.

There are plenty of us here who would be happy to help you if you came unstuck.  Had you found a pattern you liked?

There is an Atelier 7 for sale on facebook.  I'm trying to resist temptation, but I may have messaged the seller.  Hopefully someone will buy it before she gets back to me.

Block of the Month 2017 / Re: Block of the Month - October

Thank you, all.

This will be brought out every Christmas from now on and will be a lovely reminder of the support and friendship I have found on this forum.   <3  However, I am going to piece the backing so I will probably be sewing the binding on on Christmas morning, not for the first time.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: FPP Unicorn
« on: November 19, 2017, 12:15:55 PM »
That's amazing! I didn't realise that sometimes you had to use paper pieces for quilting but, then again, I'm a complete beginner!

This is for FPP (foundation paper piecing), Sewbee.  I love this method as it's dead easy to get those sharp points.

That's fab, Sandra.  What are you going to do with it?

Imperial.  When I first starting P&Q, I went on a beginners course on which the teacher sold us rulers in cm.  No idea why.  Quilters use inches.

Hope you're feeling better soon, Sewbee.

I've never heard of a starter set of rulers.  A 6 1/2" by 24 1/2" rectangle is probably the most useful to begin with.  Next I bought a 12 1/2" square which is useful for squaring up blocks as well as cutting.  I have several others but use these two most.

I have a 45mm Olfa rotary cutter, which I use most of the time and a 28mm Clover to use with templates.

So pretty, Mali.  Your fabrics play together in such an interesting way.    :loveit:
