Well, the new toy arrived this morning. It's noisy. Doubt I'll be running it too late but it is veeeeeeeery smooth.
1st attempt at embroidery was this.....

Being a bit more daring I went in search of free designs on't tinterweb and found not too many.
This fella caught my eye along with a few dinosaurs and stuff. I added the croc lettering.

Turned out quite well mefinks.
I've also been playing around with some android app called "Touch Embroidery free" which digitizes stuff sort of. Having a few hiccups with that.
I'm also planning on having a crack at using something called "SophieSew" which looks interesting if not incredibly difficult.
Anyhoo, it's late, I'm tired and I'm off to bed. Nighty night.

@Bill your first embroidery attempts look great, did you buy the machine with projects in mind, or was it a case of something you “just had to have?” - I’ve been looking at them too...
-
Thanks @Cazlyn
The idea for an embroidery machine popped into my head when I starting making little pouches for my 'in the saddlebag' bike tools. I wanted the bikes headbadge on them. Having bought the thing I now realize this could be quite a challenging job!
I can see plenty of other projects further down the line too :)
Not settling for 3rd rate fonts from the sewing machine will be nice too!
-
I’m sure you’ll figure it out, enjoying playing!
-
There is one thing @Bill when I got my new super duper sewing machine, I tried some of the fancy stitches on the machine mat I made, I was getting a bit antsy because they were taking too long, at least this can tootle on while you are doing something else.
-
Aaaaaaaaaaaand here's today's massacre.
I botched up the invisible seam on the side and the yellows didn't come out the way I'd hoped, but.....better than I thought.
Quite pleased with myself :)

You are off to a great start. So glad you are enjoying the new machine!

Just caught up with this as I've been away - have fun with your machine 0_0
-
@Bill I saw these and thought of you - linky (https://www.kreativekiwiembroidery.co.nz/product/hoop-giftbag.html).
-
Awe thanks @Bodgeitandscarper <3
Bought it :D
I'll try it when I crawl out of bed :)
-
Well this sucks. I don't have a 5x7 hoop. >:)
-
But do you have a bigger hoop? I think you could use that 0_0
-
I've a 10x7 but I've not a piece of fabric big enough to cover it
Another day maybe :)
-
@Bill if you have stabiliser big enough to go in the hoop you can lay the fabric on and baste it to the stabiliser.

If you have some stabiliser, tack your fabric onto a big enough piece, hoop that, then remove the extra when the embroidery is done. Doh - just seen someone already suggested this. What a great mind you must have @Ohsewsimple !

I'm short on stabilizer too. In fact, it's not even stabilizer...its fusible watchamicallit. I'll get more supplies when Christmas is over.
Hooever, I haz bin bizzy.
I've got me a copy of embird 2003! Yes, it's 18 years old!
So I've been watching tutorials and stuff and been trying to cram it into a faulty brain and then trying to remember stuff. But, I have done my first 'Start from scratch' embroidery file
I picked a love heart coz it's an easy enough shape with just enough curves and whatnot to make it interesting.
The edges and finish are a bit rough, but it's progress :D
Done without any form of stabilizer.

If you're not bothered about the backside (!! :|) just use firm scrap fabric as stabiliser. It doesn't have to be fancy stuff, fleece scraps are good as is cotton. Cut away what you don't want afterwards.
-
Oooh, digitizing as well now? Well done! I've never tried from scratch, I'm just not artistic, but I do use Embrilliance for making (very) simple changes in designs.
-
Returning the favour @Bodgeitandscarper I saw these

They're good at digging up gardens. Might save you a few bob
-
Thanks, @Bill , that's a lovely design! I'd seen a poodle one, but it didn't look very poodle - that one is very poodle 0_0

Started yesterday and finished today. One of the little pouches I'm remaking for the bikes tools. Perfectly done I think...

-
There's an idea!
Next one will hopefully be able to close too :headbang:
-
Yes, that's what flaps are made for.....to hide starts and ends
-
Very nice indeed @Bill :)

Just put another press stud on in the correct place, then you can say it's adjustable to fit different things.
I may just have done this on a leather wallet.
