The Haberdashery / Re: Anyone bought a Hip Curve Ruler?
« on: June 11, 2017, 19:15:32 PM »
I use the Pattrenmaster. It has a hip curve, arm Syce, right angle, grading ruler etc all in one tool. I got mine through Amazon from Fred Aldous and it cost about £10.
I wonder why the imperial is more expensive than the metric.

Not in the sale, but those linings look lovely.

Is the flexible curve worth having?

Vintage Machines / My 99K

She dates to 1938 so a wedding present to my mother.
Not so much looked after as hardly used.
She is one heavy lump of metal  :o

I've got some of those wooden Sylko reels as well
but I can't claim a relative in the Royal enclosure - wonderful to still have her dress from that time.

I've never even heard of the last five.

In hindsight I think it was the Sphinx decals that attracted me rather than the treadle and I just posted here on impulse.

Thanks, Maximum.
I gave myself a good talking to and it isn't going to happen.

If I spend any money in the vintage area it would be on getting a motor on my 99K (and then possibly one of those clever buttonhole gadgets).

Now I do not need a treadle sewing machine, but

I have just seen a FB post about a Singer treadle (with sphinx decals) refurbished and working - price £120.

Would this be considered a reasonable price?

Vintage Machines / Re: Golly Gosh - a Featherweight!

I once found a Kenwood Chef for £5
A working one?
Seriously?
Now that would have been a real bargain.

Good find.  I'd say they didn't realise what they had in the shop.
I thought charity shops checked things nowadays. They really slipped up there.

How much?

Congratulations (sincerely meant but said through gritted teeth).

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Re: Multiple machines
« on: June 03, 2017, 12:48:59 PM »
I'm afraid that my machines live in any vacant space which will accommodate them!  I'm looking at a 201k under the desk, a 66k in a cabinet at the back of the office, 99k lives at the side of the bureau, others live in the front office (which doubles as a sewing room).

At home I have my 611g in a Horn cabinet (set up for buttonholes), Pfaff 1475 go to machine is left out on the desk, as is, the Pfaff C/Stitch/O/locker.  A Bernina 730 lurks at the back.

I'm sorry to say, that if I want to buy a covetted Featherweight, I will have to re-home a few machines, but which ones  :'(

That is a prize winning collection

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Grid square

I like Creative Grids rulers for all sorts of measuring, but I wouldn't spend that much on a fancy one.

Still here. Still working.

Working at enjoying the 'process'
Working at seeing mistakes (even stupid ones) as a learning experience
Working at seeing multiple pattern pieces as multiple opportunities to refine fit
Working at remembering that, if I do it properly, I only have to do this once and I will have a jacket pattern I can use again and again
