Today... One thread per day / Re: Tuesday 22nd June
« on: Yesterday at 14:10:27 »
@Starryfish happy anniversary! :toast:  We will be celebrating our 30th later this year. Hard to believe, isn’t it?

Having a possible problem, related to my lumpectomy. Shortly after the surgery, it was rather bruised, but that was expected. Now that the bruise has cleared, the same area is red & warm.  I will see the surgeon on Thursday, to get this checked out.

I've been working with them for a bit now & am learning a few things;
1)Thread tension may differ a lot, from what you need with other feet.  Make a "quilt sandwich" from some scrap & test before you start on your quilt. (My failure to do this resulted in quite a bit of unpicking)
2)Quilting gloves help a great deal.
3)Run stitches at a high speed, but move the template slowly, to keep the stitches relatively small.  Moving too fast gives big, sloppy stitches that just look like temporary basting.
4) I'm finding it enjoyable, but tiring. When you get tired, take a break. I expect that my current project will take me a week or 2 to finish, but I am in no hurry.

Could be confusing when they are wet, @Sara-S

Very nice, though 👍
Only if you consider it an adjective. Seen as an instruction, it’s just what a wet towel needs.

If I really want to conceal it, the easiest thing to do would be to sew an appliqué over it. But I think I’ll leave it as is & just let everybody wonder.

I wanted to embroider a Mickey Mouse face on a shirt. I got well into it before I realized that I had forgotten to orient it in the correct direction. It was way too late to restart or rip out the work. So Mickey will be lying on his side. if anyone asks why, I'll just tell them he was sleepy.

It’s a nice warm day here, so I will get out to the park for a shoot later.
I actually got a good night’s sleep for the first time in a while.  I think that making a decision about the radiation therapy was a load off my mind.

I’m not imagining the sloppiness. My first attempt was just godawful.

I know what is supposed to happen; i.e. lining up the red line with your stitches.  But I couldn’t keep it there, without wavering so much it just looked sloppy.

I saw the radiation oncologist today. I like him; he was informative without being cold. He laid out my options, while saying that my cancer was caught at such an early stage that radiation isn’t likely to improve my long-term health. So I am likely to forego it.

I still need to see the medical oncologist. I will certainly need medication for the next several years.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Echo foot

Have you done free motion before? Is it the free motion element you are having trouble with or the echo? Free motion takes some practice...
I have quite a bit of experience with free-motion. But none with this type of foot.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Echo foot

I bought this set of feet, mostly for the ruler foot that is much easier to put  the machine, than most.
https://sewingbysarah.com/collections/presser-feet/products/free-motion-quilting-foot-set

Since it came with an echo foot, I gave it a try, on some scrap fabric.  Of course, my sewing was a mess, as I have never used it before, and it clearly will take some learning.

Has anyone here ever used one? If so, I would welcome any hints.
