Embroidery and Embellishment / My Bonsai Apron
« on: May 09, 2022, 17:19:29 PM »
One of my friends from the Quilt Guild had sewn this pretty, old-fashioned wrap apron. It’s nice & long, covering my clothing, all the way below my knees.  Why she sewed this, I have no idea, as she is just 5 feet tall.  Since it doesn’t fit her, she kindly gave it to me.  As it is a nice light weight, it is perfect for working on my Bonsai, on warm summer days.  So I added a little embroidery

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Our Quilt show
« on: April 23, 2022, 11:11:48 AM »
The Staten Island Quilters Guild is having a show for the first time since the pandemic. It will take place today.  I am so excited as I have never been involved in one off these before.  We spent yesterday setting up. We have 75 quilts to show.

I will post a few pics later.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / The Bunny Block
« on: April 19, 2022, 18:28:09 PM »
I decided to sew the bunny block today. I had gotten an email, linking to a video for this   The video I saw had good instructions and the pattern & directions I downloaded were easy to follow.

The hardest part was doing the little snowball corners around the bunny’s ears.  But the video gave a good tip for working with such small pieces (just 1” x 1”). They suggested using a dab of glue in the outer corner of each square before you sew it on.  I used a bit of household glue stick. It doesn’t matter much what you use, since that corner gets cut off anyway.

Though the block has a lot of pieces, its overall size is large (about 16” x 10”) so you wouldn’t need that many for a quilt.

Embroidery and Embellishment / PJ Pants
« on: April 09, 2022, 22:35:13 PM »
As I may have mentioned (OK maybe bragged) I have lost some weight and so my baggiest pants are being moved to the pajama drawer. So, in the interest of sorting laundry correctly, I have embroidered them, to identify their purpose.

This pic didn’t come out great, but you get the idea.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Flower Basket block
« on: March 31, 2022, 12:13:33 PM »
This is my guild’s block-of-the-month for March.  It has 20 individual pieces, which is a lot more (for one block) than I am used to. I think it came out pretty good. I guess my piecing skills are starting to improve.

I can’t see myself doing a whole quilt of this (unless I win the next BOM raffle.) Perhaps, when I have a bit more experience, but not just now.

@Iminei I saw that you did that in the Joke Thread. How do you do it?

This will go on my belt, along with my quiver. It is used for my release (the trigger that releases the string) and other small items that need to be within easy reach. it came out pretty good, but I wish I’d made it a little wider. It’s big enough to hold what it has to, and my hand fits inside. But it just barely fit around the sewing machine’s free-arm, making it difficult to do some of the finishing.

Waldo wanted a personalized belt. I used some of the scrap fabric from the flamingo quilt for the belt. I embroidered his name, just above the centerline. Then I folded it like double-fold tape & just sewed the outside edges. I finished with a royal blue snap set, to keep it closed. Here he is, modeling his newest gear.

The big panel & smaller pieces came from one big piece I bought at the last quilt show I attended. I have laid them out on the bed just to get some ideas. I am not necessarily planning to arrange them as they are in the picture.

Of course, it needs sashing & a border.  I am hoping for some ideas about layout & colors. Thanks.

I needed some bras with pockets for a lumpectomy pad.  But the only comfortable one I found has very short, non-adjustable straps.  So I sewed in an extra 6” of elastic on each strap.  Not the prettiest sewing I have ever done, but I was more concerned with sturdiness.

BTW, the straps are even. I just didn’t hang it straight on the hanger.

I made a bunch of these to send to various friends & relatives.  They’re fun to do, & flat enough to mail inside a card.

I got in the mood to do some free-motion. So I made a Valentines Day wall hanging. Out of season, I know, but it will keep.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Tube quilting
« on: November 08, 2021, 11:04:04 AM »
This is a way of cutting a bunch of half-square triangles from the same fabrics I got a link to this video from my quilt guild;
https://www.nationalquilterscircle.com/video/tube-quilting-jelly-rolls-015612/

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks interesting. Anyone here ever tried it? Opinions?
