Very cheerful.

@Elnnina I do what Helen M does when faced with narrow sleeves etc. Turn the garment inside out and then stitch from inside of the sleeve. Much easier than trying to use a free arm on a narrow opening.
I’ve heard it called sewing on the inside of the teacup.
Sounds weird but once you’ve done it it’s so much easier.

Patterns Discussion / Re: Has anyone tried Spencer Ogg patterns
« on: March 18, 2024, 09:23:13 AM »
Absolutely love Spencer Ogg patterns @Celia .

They are very well drafted and the instructions are excellent. She has a detailed instruction list with good photos and most patterns have a well produced video tutorial.

I haven’t sewn the Starlight myself but I’ve done loads of others. I’ve just finished the https://www.spencerogg.com/product/boothstown-backpack/ in leather using my new HD9 and am delighted with it.

Diane has a YouTube channel with lots of mini tutorials so you could check that out first.

Having done several bags by other designers, of varying quality, I usually look at Diane’s patterns first

@Sheilago I love your layout, can I copy it?

It makes something scrappy look so much more pulled together.

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Re: Stash Hub

Interesting but by the time I’d have entered all my stash I could have sewn up lots of it

That app is for much more organised people than me.

Really lovely @BrendaP . A true scrappy miracle.

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Re: New overlocker tips
« on: March 08, 2024, 14:07:22 PM »
@realale if it’s any help I have a Babylock Imagine and I think it’s my best purchase ever.

It stitches everything I throw at it without needing any adjustment.  It’s easy to thread and clean. I think I’ve adjusted the differential feed twice in 5 years.

I bought a secondhand Evolve, an o/l, coverstitch combination machine, as my first introduction to Babylock and was hooked. They just work so well.

A new sewing room meant that I had more machine space so I decided to buy an overlocker and keep the Evolve as a coverstitch and the Imagine was my first choice.

I ended up buying a BLCS coverstitch as well and have kept the Evolve as backup but perhaps I should think about letting it go as the cupboard I keep all the boxes in is getting too full.

Mine is going to be a very similar design to @Sheilago . Mine will look so much darker as I have very little white in the mix.

My sashing is going to be navy, because that’s what I’ve got.

What’s amazing me is that after making 26 6.5” blocks and having strips cut for at least another 10 blocks, the scrap box doesn’t look any emptier.

In the wardrobe / Re: Swimsuit
« on: March 06, 2024, 12:28:46 PM »
Well DD has finally been able to give her swimsuit a proper tryout and it has passed with flying colours.

Her only comment was that the lining was a little too full in the leg area, easily sorted as I could have made the leg elastic a little tighter.

More fabric has been ordered, she wants to get away from stripes as she says no one her size needs an arrow pointing to their bottom!

The added bonus is that as the fabric is nice and wide I can get a simple swimsuit for DGD out of the leftovers. Mind you at 5years old she loves matching Mummy, but I don’t suppose that will last.

@The Shrinking Sewist a basic swimsuit is a very easy sew, complications like bra cups etc not so much.

Hi, I'm new... / Re: Hello

Welcome @DiverDan , that backpack is very nice, not over engineered and beautifully finished.

Sewing what you need and will make use of is so satisfying isn’t it.

Thanks @Acorn , I no longer feel I’m missing out. I did buy it last year, it was a good bargain.

I’m going to be good and ignore it, I’ve got far too many patterns anyway.

Access All Accessories / Email from Sew Modern Bags
« on: February 28, 2024, 09:41:48 AM »
Has anyone had an unexpected email from SewModernBags?

They recently had a bundle offer that I looked at but didn’t buy. Last night I got an email saying that the enclosed link would give me access to the patterns.

The salutation was just Hi but the email address looks legit, I’m worried it’s a scam but can’t be sure.

Sewalongs and Competitions / Re: The Official Scrap Quilt Sewalong 2024
« on: February 26, 2024, 00:05:28 AM »
I’m doing a good old fashioned string quilt as I haven’t the time or inclination to plan anything and have lots of scraps to use.

My intention is to make 4 blocks between every other project. So the other day I finished DDs cossie , I then pressed some scraps and cut them into various width strips and assembled 4 blocks.

I’m now making a handbag and then another 4 blocks, should have something to assemble by late spring unless the sewjo goes west.
