A Good Yarn / Re: Do you block your knitting?
« on: October 20, 2019, 18:48:19 PM »
I bought a thickish yoga mat from a discount shop and use it for blocking with flower headed pins.  Much cheaper than the proper thing and just as effective.

I always soak and then roll up in a big towel to get most of the water out   I don’t use an iron as I overdid things once and flattened things out too much.

A Good Yarn / Butterfly Cowl
« on: October 20, 2019, 16:10:41 PM »
Just finished this

It’s the Butterfly Cowl by Marin Melchior.

I’m not sure about it :S

I saw her Papillion Shawl pattern on Ravelry and loved it but I’m not really the shawl type, so was pleased when I saw she done this pattern. I love the effect but am not sure I’d find the cowl easy to wear, it’s a bit of a funny fit.

When I feel like knitting something that requires a fair amount of concentration I may try her scarf pattern which is what I should have picked in the first place.

Looks fine to me.  :D

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Re: Janome coverstitch skipped stitches

Oh @Vezelay thank you for that. I was a little hesitant to post about something I couldn’t check personally but so many people seem to have found it useful.

@Ploshkin Ive no idea if this works but have seen it mentioned on two different coverstitch groups.    [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]    [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  .

It might be worth a try if you are having problems as it’s a lot cheaper than Bodgies solution.

If you mark the original position so you can go back if it doesn’t help it’s not a huge adjustment.

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Janome coverstitch skipped stitches
« on: October 17, 2019, 14:14:52 PM »
When I had my Coverpro skipped stitches when passing over seams drove me insane.

I have been reading on an FB coverstitches group about people raising the back feed dogs and getting a much improved stitch.

I can’t have a go myself as my Janome is no more but it might be worth trying for anyone on here with the same problem.

Details are on the FB Janome Elna  Coverstitch Support Group.

There really should be a delivery option ‘Deliver when husband is not around’.

Mine never notices things once they’re in situ ;)

Every time I see this topic in the index, my brain completes it as "strapless liberty bodice" Sorry!

Complete with rubber buttons?

A Good Yarn / Re: Crochet - should I?
« on: October 12, 2019, 20:02:26 PM »
I’ve just been looking at the Bella Coco videos, they are very good.

In the ones I watched she was using a hook with a grip handle, does anyone use these? I’ve never tried them but wonder if they are more comfortable to use than an ordinary hook.

Sometimes I get cramp in my hands when I crochet for long periods, especially when I’ve not done it for some time and wonder if grips would help.
