Title: Can anyone identify the make of this?
Post by: rubywishes on January 02, 2021, 07:08:19 AM
A friend has been given this treadle base, (unfortunately with no head in it) and is trying to identify the make of it. Is anyone familar with this? I have scoured t'intenet and can't find anything like it. It has absolutely no markings, lettering or numbers on it anywhere. :(

Oh Rubes, sorry I can't help, but what a pretty treadle base!

Isn't it just! :loveit: It was given to an old friend by someone who had bought it (minus the head) at a garage sale some time back.

And there may be a gift of a machine of unknown make and age coming my way in gratitude if I can help with this.....and I am hankering for a Singer 66 to complete my little collection....oh wouldn't it be lovely if it was...and it becomes mine....

@rubywishes , are there any clues on the iron work?  It would be lovely to identify it - even without the inducement!

It will look spectacular when it has had some tlc.

It may help identification if there were pictures and measurements of the top where the machine was designed to fit it.
Then you'd know how big the machine bed was, and what kind of fitting it had.

You might also inquire to ISMACS - who may be able to assist.

Good luck

Sadly Jessie, there are no markings on the iron work or the timber; it is a complete mystery.

Hooray...got a reply from a lovely person on the Vintage sub forum of The Quilting Board Forum. The mystery has been solved....it's a "Standard" brand.......a company originating in Ohio USA in the very late 1800s, bought out by Singer in the early 1900s.

OOOoooooooo, wonder if I'll get my mystery machine now....so excited....maybe....
