Block of the Month 2018 / Re: Octobers Autumnal BOM
« on: December 02, 2018, 18:27:41 PM »
I can get to my sewing machine again and so have started playing catch up again. I’ve not quilted this block but have done a bit of decorative stitching.

Block of the Month 2018 / Re: Decembers BOM - Ho ho ho!!!

Mmm, that might be a bit of a challenge to fit it in with the rest of the BOMs in my BOM quilt. Better get my thinking hat on. Or perhaps I could make a larger version and it could be my thinking hat  ;)

Vogue 7488 is double breasted and has a long line sweeping collar. It is not curved, but you might be able to adjust that.

The Haberdashery / Re: Eyelets
« on: November 23, 2018, 20:59:30 PM »
When I did a corset class a good few years ago I got the Prym Vario Pliers on the tutor’s recommendation. They have been great not only for setting eyelets, but also for setting different types of snaps.

The tutor preferred to make the hole for the eyelet with a stiletto, but you can get punching inserts for the pliers which cut neat small holes.

Block of the Month 2018 / Re: Novembers BOM

@Acorn I have every intention of finishing all of the BOMs but life (or rather a death) has got in the way and my sewing machine is blocked in with boxes of stuff and memories after having to clear a house. I think I am only two boxes away from being able to get back to sewing again.

Sewing Professionally / Re: Advice on business name please.

To me "Absolutely Fabric" suggests that you sell fabric, not crafted items. Could you use a made up word such as fabrilicious or fabriculous (both of which maybe in use) instead?

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Tuffet pattern

Lady Sew and Sew have various kits. I think this link below should work, but if not go to the home page and search for tuffet it will show the kits etc.

Sewing Machines / Re: Walking Foot

It can also be useful when sewing fabrics with checks or stripes as the walking action can prevent "creep" and keep the patterns matched.

It would seem from the penultimate paragraph of this article that kitchenette pajamas are not just for the house - anyone for flower gardening, boating or the beach?

Great news, @calico. Glad you have got sorted in the end and at a good price from a local supplier.

Looking at the SMD website, the extra wide extension table is shown as optional extra for the 8200QC machine, but not for the 8200QCP machine, which made me think that it was included as part of the special edition.

I always thought that special edition meant that some extras were included with the machine .

Looking at the SMD website, the QCP machine comes with a straight stitch needle plate, an extension table, a special spool holder, an improved buttonhole foot, and a semi-rigid cover which are not included on the QC machine.

I don't think of the Janome 8200QCP as a combined sewing and embroidery machine - it does some fancy stitches and lettering but it doesn't have a separate embroidery module as the combination machines do.

If you want to use large cones with it, you can get a stand-alone thread stand that sits behind the machine (that's a lot of standing and sitting in one sentence!). There are a few different types available and I am sure someone on here can recommend one.

A Good Yarn / Re: Caterpillar Crochet help please!
« on: September 21, 2018, 12:23:36 PM »
I'm very much a novice when it comes to crochet patterns, but with 6 chains if 1 of those is for turning, that would leave you 4 chains for a SC into each of those and 1 chain for the 3 SC.
