Title: Oh I do love a batik!
Post by: rubywishes on November 07, 2017, 08:25:16 AM
I was given a pack of 40 batik 2.5" strips and promised myself I wouldn't touch them until I had cleared all my UFO's. Well the UFO tops are all completed and I can't find any nice backing at the mo' so what's a girl to do? Housework? Good heavens no! Read a book? No can do...got a brand new read lined up but I'm saving it for our camping trip next week. So there's no alternative but to dive into my luscious batiks and make a start on my new couch quilt.

I don't know why it is but when other people use batiks they always look fabulous but when I look at batik fabrics I just can't see what I could do with them that would look good.  Somehow, in the flesh, the colours appear dull to me.

Batiks have a tendancy to veer towards muddy colours when there are more than two or three colours involved (Think painting when you were a kid, when you mixed the colours the paint always turned to the colour of mud .....and texture too sometimes!!!) but look at these bad boys that I snaffled from my local Emporia yesterday !!!

True, this bunch of batiks are all autumnal tones but so vibrant "in the flesh" they look just stunning against the brown (with black leaf) fabric. I'll post a pic of me wearing my sunglasses whilst piecing shall I?? 0_0 0_0

I have this (https://www.craftsy.com/quilting/supplies/boundless-batiks-vintage-reserve-precut-fabric/454555) pack of 10 inch squares and this (https://www.craftsy.com/quilting/supplies/marcus-fabrics-new-aged-muslin-fat-quarter-fabric-bundle/57540) pack of fat quarters from a recent Craftsy sale.   :D

No idea what they will become, but for the moment I'm just looking at them.   0_0

I sent DS to a quilt shop in Toronto that has very good bundles of batiks and a special offer of a box of Kaffe Fassett fat quarters this month.  He won’t tell me what they bought just that I have to wait till Christmas Eve when they arrive for my birthday present.
