Sewalongs and Competitions / Re: Weekly Sewing Club Wednesdays 2-4pm

I have been knitting patches to put inside jumper elbows before I make good the stitches round the worn out bits.  DIL says DS has pointy elbows.  I think it is because the left elbow rests on the desk all the time he is using his mouse.  For design work, he uses the mouse a lot.
Haven't got to the sewing in part yet.  Preparing to sew?

A Good Yarn / Re: Or give up

@Cazlyn  I would just undo the shoulder seams, add edgings  with buttonholes and make a feature of the shoulder fastening.

I overlocked the seam of a duvet cover I shortened. Then I played with 4m of ivy leaf tablecloth to see the best use I could make of it.  Got 2 cloths for the extended dining table from it. Just need hemming but then it was time to make dinner.  All excitement here!.
Yesterday I did a bit more cleaning of the SR and found 3 skirts in various stages of construction.  That will be the next project. Or three.

Well, I am now officially Warm and Cosy.  Cut out on Feb 24th and finished on March 15th.   Only 3 weeks, just a pity it was not done in time to enter. Still, feels good.

In the interests of waste management, I also made this:

She is very pleased with it. But now needs slippers!
Note also the draught excluder behind her - stuffed with scraps from cutting out and trimming on the overlocker.  It also kept the pink fluff down in the room.  I have cleaned out the machines and swept the floor, not sorry to see the end of the fluff!

Fun with Fabric / Re: Where are you all buying your fabric?

My cotton towelling for the dressing gown/bathrobe was from Pound fabrics and is good too.  I have some bits of viscose from there which I want to have a go at when I have cleaned up the mess I just made.

I done a couple of hours on my dressing gown and cleaning the overlocker.  The pockets and belt loops are on, the sides done, just(!) the hemming, topstitching and fastening down the facings.  I'll be glad to clear it all up at last.
Not looking too bad though.

I like that better than a whole one.

Smashing!  Those are some of the reasons the rest of us sew as well. Love the hanging 'cupboard'.

My huskylock 34d uses standard household needle with a flat back too.   The Janome 634d recommends HA1-SP which are easy to get too.

I have 2, the Janome 634D (+feet and VHS) and my original Viking Huskylock which has a very useful small freearm but does not disengage the knife. Both work brilliantly.  The freearm is very good on sleeves.

You will have lots of arms and bodices left over.  you could make a couple of octopus costumes.

Toileandtrouble's Entry

Socks for OH
(after testing positive for 'you-know-what' on January 2nd  I have not been up to much sewing.  I did knit though.  Socks for OH, his bought ones seem to shrink however careful I am and they are leaving marks on his legs.)
He finds these very comfortable, but too thick for his best shoes.  Still he wears them every day now.
The light blue and grey is Drops Fabel, the deeper blue from Schjeepes, lovely to knit with.  I am trying out Fyberspates Coop for the next pair - for me, because one skein is not enough for the larger sizes.  Beautiful wool though.

Taken off the paper pattern. Threaded up the pink.  Sewn 2 small darts, staystitched the neck and prepared the pockets and belt carriers. Also have a belt. That's a heavy day for me at the moment. But it is progress.
