Title: Bernina 1/4" patchwork foot - poor quality
Post by: Madame Cholet on March 07, 2017, 11:16:18 AM
I have a thing about Bernina old style feet and have been amassing quite a collection over the years.
I saw a quarter inch patchwork foot on ebay - foot 37 - for under twenty quid so I decided to treat myself.
I sent it back for a refund because the quality was dreadful unfortunately.

It had a hinged base which hinged only very very slightly, the cast surface was rough in places and there were manufacturing globs of metal on it, the shank was not perpendicular to the foot - when stood on its base it leaned slightly to one side - and the 1/4" markings on one side of the base were not actually 1/4"; one was slightly less than 1/4" and another slightly more. And where the number was on the front of the shank, the white part, was white paper glued on... :|

I feel a tad uncomfortable leaving such negative comments but the foot really was pants. Perhaps I just got a particularly poor quality one, and the dozens of others the seller has sold have been ok.

I thought I would mention my experience here as a cautionary tale nevertheless.

Where was the seller based?, had you used them before? . sounds like it was cheap copy.. my Sister  and her husband run a company supplying paper goods for bakers and they have to spend time every week searching their own  company name as cheap copies of their goods come onto ebay and Amazon and use their business  name to indicate a quality product.. they then have to report these companies to get the listing removed.. till they pop up again the next week

They are in Essex, and yes, you are right, it is a cheap copy. I should have known better I suppose...
Although many sellers out there buy in old stock and you often see bunches of old-style-but-new Bernina feet sold at a reduced price.
When I spoke to the seller about it he tried his best to convince me that Bernina no longer make their own feet...  ><
Never mind. Any patchwork I sew shall remain, at least for the time being, a bizarre hybrid of Imperial-sized pieces sewn with a Bernina metric 7.5mm patchwork foot (edit - due to ocd - it might be 7.0mm?)  8)

How tedious and frustrating, and... wrong!  :'(
I experienced similar years ago when I sold my own knitting designs for a short time  :(
