Whispers - it's metres, not meters over here  :P
And I still often ask for two yards of fabric  :S

@Bodgeitandscarper I thought that but was too lazy or tired to double check.  ;)

I love that gadget @Sara-S . I was fortunate to get introduced to it very early in my quilt journey. Game changer.

You’ve made the binding for your quilt. It’s now one continuous strip, several meters long.  Do you wind it around something, to keep it neat?

What do you use?

@Sara-S , mine is yards long, wink wink  ;) ,but that was sweet to list it as meters for our friends. I usually make the binding early on in the process of making a quilt so keeping it tidy is very important. And other times I just make binding to have at the ready.

After making the long strip it gets pressed, ready to use, then I apparently fold it in half once or twice, depends on the length. Then it gets folded onto itself, between 6" to 10". Then I usually use string or heavy thread to gently tie it in one or two places.

When I actually sew the binding on it happens in one go so I just let it unfurl.

* I had to go look at my bindings. Still haven't sewn in eons. :sorry:

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Re: Overlocker wanted
« on: March 10, 2024, 13:32:08 PM »
@coffeeandcake my Singer overlocker does a superb job, never had a problem with it, didn't break the bank and did things I was interested in that many higher end machines couldn't do. I specifically needed a tiny narrow rolled hem and the Singer aced it.

Like any used machine you need to be sure it's working properly but I certainly wouldn't shy away from an overlocker from Singer. Some of their machines, yes.

Patterns Discussion / Re: Style Arc patterns, is it just me?

I use my tape measure on the flat pattern to measure and fine tune which size to pick. First my tape measure has been confirmed correct. Some of them are off. >:) I've been told by a couple of pattern designers that we should be cutting down the middle of the pattern line. Inside or outside will change it. Then it's an accurate use of the stated seam alloance. BTW, some patterns use multiple seam allowance widths so you need to study the instructions and all the pattern pieces. It isn't always clearly marked. Any deviation on my part changes the fit. Turn of cloth, especially if you used any fabric other than the first one listed. How aggressively you press will change measurements.

It's all basically a cr@p shoot anyway.

Pats my Samsung phone, lovingly, while tapping away on my Samsung tablet. Don't I sound posh?

My Samsung was sale priced around $60 for Tracfone PAYG service. My monthly plan we use is about $15 month. It does far more than I need.

Thank you @Renegade Sewist

Nope, the metamorphic dress isn't for me.

I've actually been eyeballing it now and then for years and I don't wear dresses.  :) I'm definitely a "casual vibe" person living in the land of "casual vibe". Lol I can see it as a tunic for me. For that usage one could definitely use light weight and thinner fabrics which would keep it from being too hot to wear. Looks nice with the ¾ length sleeves shown with it.

I'm holding off until I find shoes I can wear besides these Brooks running shoes. These feet are hard to accommodate.

@WildAtlanticWay and @BrendaP  the info is actually still there.  :thumb: She mentioned Clyde pants, web search that to go to Elizabeth Suzann patterns and same with the Metamorphic dress she's asking about to find your way to Sew Liberated patterns.

BrendaP the Metamorphic dress is really "Lagenlook light", it's reversible and is pretty trim, looks like a tunic with a skirt reversing to the same with a shorter pinafore/apron type layer. The sort of garment that can look adorable with leggings, ankle boots and a hat or scarf. Perfect for puttering in the garden or scouring antique shops.

I looked at Joe Browns yesterday. Meh. I liked a couple of the fabrics on dresses but for styles there wasn't anything I'd be caught dead wearing. Just not me. I was disappointed, Peeps were saying nice things about them. Twenty year old me liked a very bold short jumpsuit but alas she no longer chooses my clothes.

ETA: upon closer examination the 3 layer version is being worn over a skirt or dress.

When DS went off to university last year it became obvious that his 3 year old mobile phone wasn't going to cut it because *everything* up to and including the washing machines was app-driven.  We looked around and went for a Fair Phone.  These Android devices are a bit bigger and a tad heavier than the £1k sleeksters on the market nowadays but it is modular and user-serviceable.  It's easy to change the battery, the screen or whatever else might go wrong, and the manufacturer guarantees that its software will be supported for at least five years from sale.

In today's market 5 years is an eternity.

@datcat23 will probably appreciate this but I'm not too sure about some of the rest of you... ><    My best year for a stress free holiday season was the year with the best planning. Years ago I used to make gigantic cookie platters, pretty cookies, about 12-16 varieties. It was fun and by July the lucky recipients would be asking if I was going to do it again and telling me what they especially liked. Consequently I still have my master list of cookies, candies etc to pick and choose from. I don't have many people to do stuff for these days, no parties to give or attend so things are really scaled back.

The best year I decided to celebrate throughout the year. I'd do Christmas related things on the 24th and 25th, sometimes also the 23rd every month. I'd bake a cookie, maybe make a little fudge, fix a dish to try out something new. I'd also play Christmas music, put a holiday themed runner or placemats out and maybe a little decoration here or there. Sometimes I'd work on gifts or just look at ideas to jot down for later. And I'd have a little gift for OH. It was fun and relaxing.

Since I'm a big Hallowe'en fan I also celebrated a bit on the 31st every month that had one. Any excuse to get out the vintage Hallowe'en decor.  :thumb:

Excellent!  See @Bill things are on the up and up already. Best of luck with this one.

I don't have a bunion but I do have very wide feet and DMs are fine on me. Sings 'herring boxes without topses...  '

:scream:  I'll look into that. I've got wide feet and this silly bunion.

@Tamnymore , ageing Bo-Peep indeed. I've had two groups of associates in the past nickname me Bo-Peep. Imagine being at a multi day workshop, being a facilitator no less and having your name tag replaced with one saying Bo-Peep.

If we are happy in our skin, think of clothes as part of your skin, we feel better, are happier and interact with others in a more positive way. Sometimes we might look a little goofy to some people. So what?

I'd have those flowered Doc Martens except they don't come in wide. My bunion needs wiggle room!

OH would never dream of telling me what to wear or that he doesn't like something.
