I'm planning some cargo pants, though maybe a bit of a frankenpattern (merging bits from multiple patters and bit of self drafting).

I may be making some trousers for my grandson, they won't be anything special, but I can enter them just to make up the numbers...  0_0

I'm still waiting for my fabric to come from India.  It was shipped today so if it comes in time then I'll do something otherwise I'll push it into the 3 piece Spring ensemble!

I've got some nice maroon wool flannel for wide leg trousers. The Burda pattern has pleats ironed in, and I may try to do that. Will experiment on scraps first, as I am terrible at trousers pleats as my son and DH will attest. Son took over ironing his after joining the Air Cadets and got taught the military way.

I'm going for a 30's Katherine Hepburn vibe or maybe a 70's  Stephanie Powers look. There is enough fabric to make a matching waistcoat, with some black poly sharkskin for the back. I'll line the trousers to knee length as well.

I stumbled apon this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDePy3nQnS4) last week -a construction of a pair of jeans on an old industrial machine. Maybe its inspiring to watch?

I made a pair of corduroy jeans last week, it only needs the back pockets and buttonhole/button. If that is done, I  think I will duplicate the jeans in another corduroy. I REALLY need pants.

Lovely to watch the precision craftsmanship and attention to detail.  I also really like the understated branding  - classy.
Yes, definitely inspiring. (Not a bad price for bespoke either - from £615ish)

Thanks for sharing that @Morzel I was fascinated watching him.  Also saw a couple of things that I do in there.  Always three knots when tying off and pressing the machine foot down when going over a thick layer  :vintage:  :)

@Morzel, thank you for the video. I enjoyed watching the precise craftmanship and the attention to detail. It has given me food for thought as I will be making a pair of dolly jeans next week.

Anyone sewing trousers? I finally cut out a blue corduroy one. The pockets are done, now comes the zipper. Not much sewing somehow these last two weeks. So, any fellow sewer out there?

By the way, I sewed jeans in January and left them unhemmed. I noticed a lot of shrinkage with my last pairs, even though I had prewashed the fabric. Again, the fabric was prewashed. The jeans shrank 2cm in the first wash and another 2cm in the second. I am soo glad I did not hem them yet!

I am full of good intentions. I have need of trousers - only got my me-made jeans and they seem to have shrunk around the middle.  I have fabric.  I have patterns.  I have hope. Ten days left?

I cut out a pair of jeans and practiced top-stitching.  Unfortunately life has got in the way since then.

I'm not doing this one - I don't think I can count making a toile of a new pattern, can I?

I'm thinking about making SA Bob Woven Pant (https://www.stylearc.com/shop/pdf-sewing-patterns/bob-woven-pant-multi-size-pdf/) but I'm waffling.  I'm not sure I like the amount of ease in the size I had printed.  I'd also have to widen the hip to waist to get them up as the finished waist is about 2" less than my actual hips.  I sort of think I want to go down another size instead.  Obviously the fact the waist is smaller than my hip means it's intended to be this baggy.  But even so ....

I don't see why not @Catllar. They are trousers even if you won't be wearing them.

Maybe. If I get the toile done then I'll put them in but if not I won't.  Sounds right?

@mudcat  I have the same problem - very small difference between waist and hip so I just grade out the waist. I just started a wearable toile for  a Tessuti  Tamiko pant pattern , so I cut a small to get the less baggy hip and remembered just in time I needed to adjust the waist. Still not sure if it'll go on but we'll see

This is my fitting issue too, one of many. The other is excess baggy-ness on the back legs.

I have a swayback and a rather round bottom. This means it looks like a very odd crotch seam. I  am making some Burda wide legged trousers. The waistband is curved but not enough for me, I put it all together but it stood away from my back. The usual pinning and taking in has resulted in a better fit, not quite flat but good enough. The seams don't quite line up, so there will be a little unpicking and fudging this afternoon.

Baggings at back of leg - could be flat bottom adjustment needed?

Sometimes a seam in the middle of the back piece can work well to deal with excess.  Think of it like a Princess seam in a dress.

I finished my pants today sans hem. Not too content with the drag lines at the back thigh (even though TNT pattern). Needs a bit of tweaking, but I am not sure if I will finish them in time. I need to pack up my kitchen, as the old one is being removed next week for a new one. I'll be visiting my parents over a prolonged weekend, so everything has to be done by Thursday. I will take them to my parents house, maybe I'll be able to work on them on the weekend. Even if I don't get them done, the challenge has been nice as it really pushed me to sew at least the pants this month.

So many plans, so little time.  Was going to make trousers - OH, self, and a couple more very small people (Ken, April) but have run out of month.  I did spent  a few days in bed with 'flu' after my vaccination.  Glad to see some of you actually achieved something.

@toileandtrouble I hear you. So much to do, so little month.

Thanks for the reminder that my reaction to the first vaccination at the beginning of February took me out for a few days. Then the sudden approval for the hip replacement for OH and the flurry of activity that created took up more time.

I really need some pants. I did make some progress. The cutting table is empty and dusted. Yes, an entire 3' x5' empty surface. My pattern is taped. I can work on the room the machine is in tomorrow and plan on extracting it then.

Maybe sewing by the end of next week?

Well I did my usual procrastinate and only got as far as finding a pattern, McCall's M6901, checking measurements for which size I needed (see 'gin meltdown' thread in café) and cutting out the pattern pieces.

One day...

Ok Your User Name and Entry Number Catllar's entry
What is it and for whom :This is a wearable toile for me as a precursor to the Spring 3 piece .
Fabric and Pattern.:The pattern is Tessuti Tamako with added Catllar! The fabric is indian handwoven cotton from iTokri that I pre-washed and have kept a bit back to make a top.
A short description : So these are 7/8 pants and they have a lantern shape achieved via a separate bit at the bottom. They were out the packet OK for fit but I changed the bottom hem to add a couple of front and back tucks to bring the ankle in a bit.  The interesting bit was the pocket construction as I've never made a pocket like this - just one piece stitched onto the pants front and the front pocket edge is formed from the seam allowance.

I like this shape - it'll work well under a long tunic too.

Having my usual issue posting pictures but bear with me!

Starryfish's Entry

Burda 6613 wide leg trousers in wine wool flannel. I made size 42 at the hip, size 40 waist but about 3inches removed from the centre back. I have a narrow swayback and large bottom. Every new pattern has to have a toile made, and even then I usually take in some more at the back.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

This shows some of the back curve!

I added a lining to just below the knee, and made the inner waistband from the lining fabric as well to reduce bulk. I cut the lining across the fabric so the selvedge is the hem, so no line shows.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

They are nice and warm, and go well with the Ottobre blouse I made in January. I had enough wool left over for a waistcoat, but haven't sewed it up yet.
