I think the hip width was there for the paper nylon petticoat underneath.

Thank you Jintie.

I was wondering if there was a petticoat under but couldn't see it as feasible as the pictures on the model show as basically skimming the hip area.

I would go with the waist measurement as the skirt isn't intended to be fitted round the hips.

Thank you Ploshkin..... I was thinking the same but then over-thought it and asked.

You've just confirmed my thinking. :)

Hi All,

I'm planning to make the skirt from Simplicity 8462 which is a style I really like.
Sim 8462

However, I'm wondering if I should use my hip measurement or my waist one for this skirt to determine size to cut out.
Reason I am asking what you all think is that this pattern has a whopping 20 inches of ease in the hip according to the finished garment measurements. -<

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Thank you

A Good Yarn / Re: Weight of balls of wool question

Some baby wools are still available as 3ply here in South Africa.... not many though.

Some of the new 4ply yarn is almost as thin as the old 3ply - at least here in RSA it is - try using a fingering or lace weight yarn for the shawl.

Hello All,

I've currently got a pair of socks (magic loop method), a shawl and just cast on for a cotton tee on my needles.
