Sewing Machines / Re: Machine for my Mum
« on: January 23, 2024, 09:59:56 AM »
Anthony has said he wants to surprise his Mum and that she wouldn't want to choose.
I'm with his Mum....I never want to try anything ( car, sewing machine, mattress etc ) as I find it so embarrassing I'd just go to pieces.
If she likes her small machine, why not get the same brand. Just set the budget and buy the one that is best fit.

Yes, Moda do a wide range of pre cuts.
I can recommend the Sewing Studio.

You're very brave. I hate QAYG as it's so fiddly

I've never found Seasalt clothes to come up big. I've stopped buying from them as their stuff is too short and skimpy ( but I am rather well endowed bust wise ). Perhaps I'll have another look  ::thinks::

I've been in my sewing room too. I'm trying to summon up enthusiasm for sewing again but I can't find a design I like. Consequently I'm no further forward and feeling frustrated :(

I stopped wearing jeans when I lived in Cornwall and saw coachloads of "oldies" in jeans, fleeces and white trainers descend on St Ives every Autumn . When I did wear them I found Next and Sainsbury's to be excellent fits.
Who knew crotches could be so variable

Welcome to the forum.
I won't be much help as I believe in ...one sewist = one machine = one project at a time = zero mess and zero waste  :thumb:

I've started sewing today. I've begun a diary thread in the appropriate section but no one seems to have seen it :(

I cut crossways ,width of fabric but most often I use smaller strips to make a variegated binding.
Never  cut quilt binding on the bias

Nope @Lemon Syllabub never, even as a child. I was brought up in London and we didn't need wellies for smog!

5 things I've never owned....a hot water bottle, a thermometer, an umbrella, an apron and a pair of wellies

Yes @Ohsewsimple I understand that, but that doesn't explain why so much is bought, put away but never used.
