Hi
I'm a long time member of this site but have spent less time on here recently.
I have a Juki MO114D overlocker for sale.
I bought it 4 years ago from Bambers in Manchester,  and have been pleased with it but I had an oppurtunity to upgrade. I have bought an airthreading machine (also from Bambers) and they serviced the Juki for me as part of the deal.
The Juki MO114D is easy to thread, the lower looper is on a spring making threading easy. As part of the service, this spring mechanism has been replaced. Other than trying it out it hasnt been used since I picked it up last week.
I'm in Manchester & don't want to risk posting it as I don't have the original packaging (I wasn't expecting to replace the machine) but I may be able to arrange a meet up
I have photos and a video but am not allowed to post them.
Can I tempt anyone? It is a lovely machine.
I'm happy to answer any questions about the machine & send photos.

House Beautiful / Magimix cover
« on: March 02, 2021, 17:10:10 PM »
Many years ago my friend bought me some lovely tea towels, too nice to be used as tea towels. So I kept them till I a suitable project came along. I bought the Magimix a few years ago & finally I have made a cover using the teatowels.
The cakes design was very in when I was given the tea towels & was chosen for me because I was making fairy cakes (cupcakes) at the time.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The Haberdashery / Padded scissors case
« on: February 01, 2021, 15:59:21 PM »
Hi
I am looking for some help.
I usually sew garments. I am planning to make some cases for scissors as I have 3 good pairs that i keep on plastic cases that were supplied by Ernest Wright when I bought my scissors / had scissors refurbished & sharpened.
I have found 2 patterns for the style I like https://www.thesewingdirectory.co.uk/padded-scissor-case-project/ and http://sotakhandmade.blogspot.com/2015/09/scissors-cozy-tutorial.html
I have fabric but am looking for advice for the padding. One  pattern calls for "Soft & Stable" which I'm struggling to find & the other refers to "Use your preferred method to baste both exterior panels to batting" but I havent used batting, I'm not sure what it is  &  I don't have a preferred method - is it just tacking?
Can anyone help me with this? Is this what I need? https://www.sewessential.co.uk/vlieseline-cotton-mix-batting-80-20-light-and-soft-blend-244cm-wide
Or please advise me of a suitable product?
I'd love to make these scissor cases - Ive been thinking about doing it for ages.

Thanks

Your Favourite Suppliers / Fabulosew pattern printing company
« on: December 02, 2020, 17:37:34 PM »
This is a new sewing pattern printing company.
They started this year during the pandemic. I think I read about it on a blog I follow.
I sent them an order about 4pm yesterday & received the completed order today. That's  a fantastic service. It is printed on lightweight paper so takes up less storage space than  regular paper. They charge £2 per A0 sheet. I don't know how it compares with other printing companies, I assume it's competitive.

Highly recommend

In the wardrobe / Toaster Sweater / Simplicity 8529
« on: November 12, 2020, 13:34:04 PM »
I have much more success with Indie patterns than Big4. I'm always disappointed with the fit of Big 4 patterns.
I recently bought the Simplicity 8529 that I thought was the same pattern as the Sew House Seven Toaster sweater. I bought the Simplicity because it was on sale.

I have made up the pattern, in a lovely jersey from Immanuals & its awful. Too big across the chest. I love oversized clothes & I did want that look but this is just dreadful. There is just too much fabric across my chest.

Do you think if I remake it going down a size it will look ok? Or should I just buy the Sew House Seven pattern. I wanted to make a few sweatshirts as those are the clothes I wear being recently retired & locked down.

Can anyone recommend their favourite sweatshirt pattern?

In the wardrobe / Indigo top - Tilly & The Buttons
« on: March 29, 2020, 14:51:51 PM »
Looking for some help with fitting.
I have made a toile of the above. It is quite a good fit but feels a bit snug at the back, between my shoulders.
Do you think I should unpick the sleeve / back seam & sew with a narrower SA, or do I need to make a larger size.

Thanks a lot  :*

An item from Threads Mag popped up on my FB "How to Sew an Elegant Wide Belt" Its in edition no 126 – Aug./Sept. 2006 & I'm wondering whether anyone has this magazine & would be willing  to lend it to me.
I recently bought a dress & I don't like the belt it came with & this is just what i'm looking for.
I would really appreciate any help with this.

Many thanks

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / For sale Bernina 830
« on: July 15, 2019, 22:50:08 PM »
I have 2 lovely Bernina 830s both from the 1970s. They sew beautifully and purr when in use.
I am going to sell one of them, I don't need 2 and I don't have space either.
I need to sort out an advertisement for them and work out the feet that I am selling with it. It has recently been cleaned and oiled.
Whilst I'm doing this, I thought I'd check here whether anyone is interested in making me an offer for my machine?
I am in Manchester, you are welcome to come to view the machine. If getting to Manchester is difficult I may be able to meet halfway or deliver if not too far.

Technical Help / Up my game
« on: May 23, 2019, 12:45:08 PM »
I am put off sewing because I'm often disappointed with the fit. Also I think I sometimes select unsuitable fabrics.
I have sewn for years and have made some successful garments & some never ever worn.
Recently I have made a few simple tops, including the Mandy Boat Tee, a free pattern from Tessuti & I'm really pleased with it, and The French Dart dress, one dress I love & the second I'm not sure about, although I wore it to work on Tuesday, but I'm not sure whether i'll wear it again..
I was chatting at home today & DH was saying he thinks I should up my game - make something more challenging. He suggests I make a dress for a wedding we'll be going to later this summer. He thinks my garments are fine - I'm just too self critical.
I read the thread by @annieeg & feel jealous of the help she had from @Holly Berry. I would love help like that. I do go to a sewing class & tonight I'm going to discuss my fitting issues with the teacher.
I've discovered I bought a class on Craftsy -  Sew the Perfect Fitwith Lynda Maynard in 2013. I have the pattern that accompanies the course, Vogue 8766, a pattern I really like. I can still access the class now that the site is Bluprint.
So, I'm going to work through the Craftsy/Bluprint course & hopefully can turn out a lovely dress.

There, Ive told you all - I'll have to see it through. :frock:

Hi

I bought a Jaguar 487 Overlocker a year ago. it has made me love using an overlocker again because its a breeze to thread, in complete contrast to my previous Janome overlocker.
However, I have a big birthday coming up and I've decided to upgrade my overlocker.

I bought my Jaguar 487 Overlocker from GUR Sewing machines a year ago. it has only had light use. I have the paperwork & it came with a 5 years warranty. I am in Manchester & I am reluctant to send it and prefer it to be collected. I could possibly be persuaded to send it though because and  I have all the original packaging. You are welcome to come to try out the machine.

I would like £160 for the machine.

« on: October 18, 2018, 23:18:19 PM »
I have always wanted a Bernina sewing machine & I may have an oppurtunity to buy a used Bernina 1008.
Is there anything I should ask when I speak to the seller? And can you advise me how do I decide how much to offer?

I'd appreciate any advice, thanks
