Title: Itokri
Post by: Greybird on May 29, 2020, 14:59:47 PM
This company is in India. My daughter has just ordered 11 metres of fabric and a couple of pieces of (cheap) jewellery from them and, with the postage, it came to just over £49. It all looks rather lovely - I'll let you know what it's like when it arrives.

Ooooh more lovely fabric! Get thee behind me . I guess it might take a bit of time to arrive (and there might be taxes - although that seems to be a bit of a lottery) but should be very nice.

Yes please do @Greybird I've had Indian hand-blocked cotton I think that's what it was called and it was quite, erm, thin, shall we say  :o

So many beautiful designs, but I'm not tempted.  However, I would be interested to hear back from @Greybird once the order has been received.

Well, the parcel has arrived - very quick I think. She says:

" the fabrics are lovely, although I've not opened them up fully yet as despite the fact they took a little over a week to get here and were wrapped in a bag, cellophane, cloth, newspaper and a box!!!!, they are still in quarantine just in case."

Not sure if you can read the note - it says:

Thank you for visiting our littell adela(?). We are really excited to have you with us. Here is a gift for your first purchase. Hope you like it. We would love to hear from you again and have some feedback with love and support. Lots of love Jig.

I think I shall get some of the fabric in due course to make up for her so I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for reporting back.  I can't quite commit to online shopping and won't start with an overseas supplier.

@UttaRetch you're very fortunate that you don't have to, I'm many miles away from any fabric establishments  :(

@sewmuchmore - sorry for the delay in replying, I had to ask her. This is what she said:

I didn't have to pay anything import duty wise, just the quoted postage at time of purchase. The email communication from purchase to delivery was fantastic and then I could track my package on it's journey... only took about a week and a half which I thought was very good given the distance and weird times we are in. I liked watching it travel through India!

My daughter has received her second order from them. She ordered it last Wednesday and it arrived on Monday! It has taken longer than that for fabric I ordered to come from Gloucestershire!

I now have some of the fabric in my possession - guess who is making it up! It seems very nice - much as you would expect this type of fabric to be. Based on our experience I would recommend this company.

O! M! G! :scream: :scream: :scream:

WHY did I look!!!

Beautiful fabrics, great prices........oy......

OK...so this is my new incentive to bribe myself into completing a handful of non-sewing projects that are keeping me from my machines.

I could have a "Merry Christmas to me" in September! ...I'm liking this idea...

Happy I looked! Thank you!

@Esme866 I looked too. Shipping isn't outrageous.  This could prove to be bad in a very good way.  :faints: I've been wanting to get a few strings of Tibetan prayer flags. Their selection and pricing are astounding. Might as well add some yardage while I'm there.

@Renegade Sewist - and is it just me, or are the well-established online fabric vendors here in the states offering more and more "polycrap"? - basically the same stuff disposible factory clothing is made of - at the noticeably higher prices.

I was literally reminiscing about Indian fabrics just yesterday while doing laundry. I'm excited.

@Esme866 are we both thinking of Marcy Tilton right now?

Disclaimer for the rest of you: Marcy has some lovely fabrics. She has tons of synthetic fabrics and plays up how wonderful they are. She routinely gives you the impression of how precious and rare the fabrics she carries are. It's a clever little marketing strategy. Her prices are also very high. She had a lovely range of Japanese cotton a few years back. The local high end quilt shop also carried it. It was about $18 per yard locally and $29 yard from Marcy.

@Greybird  thank you for the recommendation. I ordered a few fabrics from them and they are lovely. In the order was some jacquard cotton which I've already started using (an Ogden cami). The texture is very different to European cottons, not bad, just different. It has a much more open plain weave and a slight crinkle to it, a little bit like crepe. It washes and sews nicely and is comfy to wear, especially in warm weather. I also have some block print batik waiting for the wash and a few metres of stunning lemon yellow modal silk. This is woven with the cotton on one face and silk on the other. It's a beautiful fabric.
The service was great, less than a week from order to receipt. I shall use them again.
