I’m looking to destash this as I got the new version for Christmas.

The new version has 270 colours and retails from £30 to £57. This older version only has 252 colours and I am asking £15 including tracked P&P (but would consider near offers).

Payment by PayPal Friends and Family please, and sorry, but this is for UK only due to Brexit-related custom changes.

I have been known to “reverse engineer” a quilt design and then work out the yardage and cutting instructions. I often find it easier to understand my own calculations but realise that this is not fair to quilt designers and so I am trying to buy patterns, especially if it is something a bit out of the ordinary or not based on traditional quilt blocks.

However, I have just bought a quilt pattern and am rather disappointed to find limited instructions as to how to cut the background fabric. It just gives the sizes of the pieces and how many are needed.

I was expecting to get details of how many WOF strips needed and how to sub-cut them, but instead I am going to have to work this out.

Am I expecting too much or is this just lazy pattern writing? The pattern is described as “beginner friendly” so would it be acceptable to email the author for further details?

My darkside sewing (and my lightside sewing) has been non-existent for most of this year, but acquiring two space-themed fabric remnants from a destash might just have resurrected it and triggered memories of typing classes many moons ago.

There was enough space fabric to make two small quilts (~40" square) for Project Linus and as I had ideal fabric in my stash for the sashing and binding, all I needed to get was some fleece for the backing.

Weaver Dee are having a flash sale with 35% off almost everything (sewing machines and Horn furniture are not included, but there may be other exclusions I’ve not spotted). I’ve used them previously for patterns and haberdashery and have been pleased with their service.

Your Favourite Suppliers / Sew Scrumptious Fabrics
« on: June 11, 2022, 16:27:07 PM »
Great service from Sew Scrumptious when I realised this week that I need to make a Harry Potter quilt for a birthday in mid July. Fabrics were ordered yesterday morning and arrived by Royal Mail this morning. They sell mainly quilting cottons, but there is a selection of haberdashery and the website gives a useful indication of postage costs based on fabric quantity.

Events / Quiltfest Trading Day, 13 Feb 2022

For anyone thinking of going to Quiltfest this year, it has been announced that quilts will be on display as planned, but there will be no traders on the Sunday.

I bought this magazine for the pattern, but it was not as I expected (poncho style, not sleeves), so I’m hoping someone else can make use of it. I’m looking for £5 + £2 P&P (large letter, ~300g as it is printed on heavy paper). Payment would be by PayPal friends and family.

The print version seems to have sold out as back issues are available only by digital download.

In the wardrobe / Inauguration coats
« on: January 21, 2021, 09:30:59 AM »
Looking at photos of yesterday's inauguration I noticed that Jill Biden's coat buttoned right-over-left, but Kamala Harris' coat buttoned left-over-right.

I was taught that women's clothing buttoned right-over-left and men's clothing buttoned left-over-right, but is this convention now changing?

Your Favourite Suppliers / Cotton Cocktails
« on: August 12, 2020, 18:12:48 PM »
I’m very impressed with dispatch/delivery times from Cotton Cocktails in Wetherby. I ordered yesterday afternoon and my fabric arrived this morning after being sent First Class by Royal Mail. I’ve been looking for some nursery style prints for a baby quilt and quite a few places had limited stock, but I found a good range at Cotton Cocktails.

Postage is on a sliding scale depending on the value of your order - orders over £40 are delivered free, under £9 is £1.50, between £9 and £25 is £3 and between £25 and £40 is £3.60 (although the useful info page mentions the old flat rate of £2.50.)

Patterns Discussion / "Big Four" pattern companies bought by UK business
« on: January 22, 2020, 10:29:02 AM »
I saw on another sewing forum that the company that owns the "Big Four" (Vogue, Butterick, McCalls, Simplicity) has been acquired by a UK business.

I've watched the video the company has issued about the acquisition and it seems to be full of wrapping paper, greetings cards, party stuff and Christmas crackers - no mention of sewing patterns at all.

I'm not sure where sewing patterns are going to fit in their portfolio of activities.

This foot is for category A machines (see link below) - these have a front loading bobbin and include “badged” machines for John Lewis, Dunelm and SMD.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Mini Sampler Quilt
« on: March 19, 2019, 19:32:00 PM »
To make a change from full size quilts, I’ve gone a bit smaller for my latest bit of sewing. The pattern is the Sew Tiny Sampler and was stitched using foundation paper piecing (thread reel and sleepy cat for scale).
