Patterns Discussion / Re: Ideas please. Velour party pants?
« on: October 24, 2023, 13:58:18 PM »
Thank you everyone for all your great ideas.

I’ve decided to purchase the Style Arc Palazzo pants PDF pattern because I already had a couple of shirt patterns I wanted to buy and if you buy two patterns from them, you get a free monthly bonus pattern and I chose the Sonny knit pant.

I also used 3 coupon codes and got the balance reduced considerably so if you’re buying from style arc, definitely try any codes you find as they don’t limit you to one choice. I’ll finish off my current Barry pants and make a start on the palazzo ones soon and I’ll post pics when I’m done. I’ve made several pairs of the Barry pants with variations on the pockets and the front apron section.

Sewing Machines / Re: Brother NS80E

Enjoy your lovely new machine @Sara-S   :loveit:

Those Brother needle threaders on the innov-is range are the best! Easy to fix if they get pushed out of alignment too, you just need a magnifying glass and tweezers. Is it lighter than your Janome HD model as I thought that would have been reasonably portable, but maybe not?

I think your machine is probably the US equivalent of the EU model badged the A80. I guess they have to change the model numbers due to running at different voltages. I still have my older Brother machine (FSW100) and take it to my sewing class as it’s lightweight to carry but very reliable and sews through most things quite happily.

Looking forward to seeing pics of your projects that you sew with it. ☺️

Patterns Discussion / Ideas please. Velour party pants?
« on: October 19, 2023, 09:29:16 AM »
I’ve got some deep burgundy velour fabric and I’m thinking of making myself something a bit Christmassy to wear.

I don’t ever wear dresses or skirts. It’s always tops with trousers. I bought a summery dress from Monsoon to get married in 10 years ago and haven’t worn it since. Not even sure if I still have it?

The velour is a bit stretchy and I’ve got about 2.5mtres, maybe 3m? I know I’ll have to be careful about the nap.

Currently thinking maybe very wide leg trousers that swish like a skirt when worn?

Help please !!!

We had the craft stuff in Lidl last week in Ireland. Most of our sewing group has the Lidl Craft storage box for our sewing kit. It’s a handy size for carrying the essentials and the plastic clasp seems pretty sturdy. I’ve had mine a few years now.

Sewing with leather isn’t as easy as cotton so I think you did pretty well. I’ve sewn bags with pleather and that was definitely a learning experience!

If you’re interested in trying other bag designs, there are some great YouTube tutorials out there but one person I really like is Debbie Shore. I think her videos are well made with good clear instructions and she has produced a massive variety of videos and has published several sewing books too. Her books cover a variety of sewing techniques inc. patchwork & quilting and I’ve bought several of them that include projects made with fat quarters. I’ve also used a few of these projects as simple tutorials for new sewers in our weekly sewing group to get them started.

This was one of the first bags I ever made and it helped me overcome my fear of zips. 😂

Have you tried using a different browser to log on? That would be my first choice attempt to resolve the problem.

It occasionally doesn’t like my alternative non Irish IP address so I have to log out of it and go back in with a different IP and then it’s happy.

@annieeg   If only you’d posted this last Monday, I’d have driven down and bought it off you whilst I was over visiting my sister.  :boohoo:

It sounds like a brilliant bargain. I’m sure you’ll sell it very quickly. ☺️👍

Brexit is probably the (second?) biggest problem to small and medium size businesses in the UK.

As you know I live in Ireland and we have many thriving local towns here in West Cork with lots of small independent businesses and very few chain stores and many of us still buy stuff from Amazon.

The biggest problem for many Irish companies was having to find new suppliers in the EU as they can no longer buy from Britain without the added customs fees. However, they’ve adapted and we now have a wider range of goods available.

@Helen M

Thank you for that.

@Greybird

Sounds like it might be something of interest to some members so I still don’t understand why it wasn’t allowed?

A welcoming, active and engaged membership is what all groups need to grow and thrive. Maybe a review of the current rules of TSP could be considered as the number of active members appear to be dwindling? Unless a much smaller (local) membership is preferred?

@Morgan , you know we dont host advertising from outside sources or TSP members businesses

I've had a late cancellation. I have one place left on the ********************
These are the last two courses that I will ever be teaching.
If you would like to book in go to,

Course related to sewing? Sounds like it’s the sort of thing that would be of interest to members of this forum so not sure why it’s been edited.

Lots of people are posting and asking about sewing courses on my Irish sewing Facebook group. Maybe join one of your local Facebook groups and post there?

Did you read the two 2 star reviews on Amazon? Really bizarre.

One person wrote what sounded like a fair and balanced review from her perspective and the other one seemed desperate to reply to it and counter all her slightly negative comments, so much so, that the second reviewer comes across as a bit unhinged. 🫣😂😂

I do hope you buy it from Amazon and add your own review. 🤣🤣
