Wish me luck ... last week was a sunny day so I kept myself to myself in the nether reaches of the carpark ... Todays weather promises not such clement weather.

Its Saturday and far too early and Im off to work, again!

The weather doesnt look too bad but its much colder so layers will make a reappearance in The Car Park .. Thank you to the TSPer who felt sorry for the girl handing her her test in the wind and rain, that girl wasn't but very well could have been (and has been earlier this year) me.

And if you are unlucky enough to be getting a Test at the Regional Test site in Bornemouth, Poole and Christchurch, insist on Bay 7!!!

Nothing planned except work I hope you peeps have nicer things to be getting on with today ... toodle pip!

and we're nearly at the end of the month !  :S

I'm beautifully refreshed after going to bed at 9.30 last night (or was it 10.30) I have never been able to sit through an entire Austin Powers movie!!! (Nor a Matrix movie)

Woke just about 6, so an hours lie in for me! Im thinking of pursuing Brendas Scrappy block now I have the measurements for that awkward Isosceles triangle block

Part of me knows I shouldnt dive into that when I have the final BOM to make, but its not due til September (I think) so theres plenty of time ... isnt there????

Just peeked at the calendar and its due on the very last Saturday of August sooooo ......

The weather looks nice out there! Blue skies and puffy white clouds. I know it was very warm last night ... 15 degrees at 3am!!! So maybe we're set for another nice day!

Whatever you are up to ... Enjoy yourselves and have a good day! xxx

2021 BOM Mystery Quiltalongathon / Block 5 - The EMERALD Star
« on: July 17, 2021, 05:46:04 AM »
Welcome to
TSP's Mystery Quiltalongathon Block for 2021

After the great success of last years QAYG BOM,
I decided to combine the BOM with a finished article,

A Mystery Quiltalongathon !!

A BOM with an agenda !!!

but here's a clue, I've called it

The Sparkling Stars Quilt

I thought, as Stars are so often referred to as Diamonds,
I would assign a different Gemstone to each Block.
and try and convey a sense of that jewel with my choice of fabrics .......

You can follow my choice of gemstone for each star ...
or choose your own according to the fabrics you have to hand

Here we are coming up to the home straight of our
MysteryQuiltalongathon Block of the Month,
(Just ONE more Block left to make after this!!! )

So for the FIFTH Block of
2021 TSP's Mystery Quiltalongathon

We have

The Amethyst EMERALD Star
The Emerald Star

and then on the i Icon

to bring up the instructions to the side of the pic.

 Please DO read right through the tutorial before you start cutting or sewing

The LAST block, Block SIX, will be released on Saturday 28th August ...

*    *     *     *     *      *

There will be SIX Gemstone Blocks, posted at 6 weekly intervals
from the end of January to end of August,
giving you ample time to gather your fabrics and make your Stars!

You will need to make between FIVE and THREE Blocks for each Star.

The techniques used throughout the Sewalongs will be fairly simple
and there are Tut's available in The Darkside Tutorials should you need to refresh your memory.

This Mystery Quilt comprises a 5 by 5 grid of 12" (f) blocks
to make a finished quilt of 60" sq,
before any added borders or sashing.

You can of course make it smaller or even larger if you wish.

* * * Fabric Requirements * * *

This Mystery Quilt will require approximately 3m's of
ONE consistent background fabric throughout the quilt

and a different Gemstone colour each month ...
within which there will be between 3 - 6 different shades.

(I'm not so good at the Maths but a 1/4 metre or FQ of each gemstone colour/shade should be ample)

And everyone who finishes 2021 with a completed quilt
will receive an exclusive

The Sewing Places's
Prize Winners Enamel badge or Sew on Embroidered Patch!!!

and the binmen cometh!

I looked into the bin last night as I returned home and was a bit surprised to see only one half empty bin bag languishng at the bottom ... checking the kitchen bin, I see nothing worth taking out this morning ... some plastic and some tissues seem to be all thats in there ... but I will for forms sake and to justify my council tax (I wonder if I can get a reduction ???  )

Yesterday was a lovely occasion. A true celebration of Heaths life.
He was so loved; People from all over the world lined up to say a few, and many of them, a lot of, words about him .. anecdotes I have heard before and many many stories I hadnt ... and tho' I took my customary place at these events, at the back, on my own, adjacent to the nearest door, and blubbed quietly through the 'service' I was so glad I was there.

I saw many of Heathie and I's childhood friends ... it was a bit hard recognising some of them, 15 to 55 is a bit of a gap but I most definitely recognised the grown up contingent ... sadly less of them than the last time I saw them these days.

It was a good do and Im so glad that I was asked and Im glad I ditched the PJ botts!

Work calleth, 7.30's this week so I'll be tootling off now ... Have good days peeps xxx

Today... One thread per day / Ok I will then, 7th July
« on: July 07, 2021, 05:27:42 AM »
And its my oldest friend Heathie's 55th Birthday, well it would've been if the silly sod hadnt dropped dead of a heart attack some 6 weeks ago or so.

Im off to the celebration of his life at a local to me Woodland burial ground. His wife AJ has come all the way from Argentina, his Sister and her husband from Spain, his daughters are currently at Uni here and everybody else who can possibly make it will be there.

Enough of that and I dont want this thread clogged up with ... well you know what ... ok ?

Its Wednesday the 7th and Ive been up for a goodly (or should that be an ungodly  ) time, tapping away at my laptop. Later this morning I shall venture into the Metropolops to get a fringe cut as Im beginning to resemble the Dulux dog. The Grand event kicks off at 3.30 and I hope I dont blub, (Im terrible at these sorts of things)

I hope the weather behaves itself and I'll see you all n the other side of my next week of shifts, that'll be Sunday then!

Toodle pip, play nicely now!

We've all got them lurking around the house ...
I went upstairs and without even trying found THREE kits
and ONE unfinished festival workshop project
(and know if I rootled around a bit I would find more  )

So for July and August we have

Festival Finds Re Found and Made !!!

Unearth those
I must have that kit / make that workshop project
from the shows and exhibitions,

Complete them and make space for new buys!

Show us your proposed make/s, post your progress pics and

at the end of August we'll have The Grand Reveal of the finished item/s !!!!

Here are this years Project Linus Quilts ... The Theme was Animal.

Well Done Girls, in a year when Mojo Hunting was declared an Olympic Sport ... You produced fabulous Creations, Bravo!!!

Sheilago's Creation

Here is my ‘ Counting sheep’ quilt for PL. It is a scrappy quilt, but every block has a sheep somewhere and I even had a little bit of sheepy fleece to patch into the back :D. Hopefully it will help some wee person somewhere to doze off comfortably.

Louise S's Creation

I finished mine last summer but have put it in the wash and taken photos.
I ran out of the blue fabric so used offcuts to make a pattern on the back.

Ploshkin's Creation

I had started this for last year.  I completed the quilt top before I had to pack away for the builders and it has languished in a box ever since.  I didn't take any progress pics because the previous PL quilts have remained anonymous until after the poll but as progress pics have now been requested it can have an airing.  I don't know when I will get an opportunity to complete it but I will try and make it by the deadline.

I have 3 possibles for the backing, none of which are the original fabrics I got for this quilt waaaay before I actually started it.  That's how you get a stash!  :P

Starryfish's Creation

This is my first real quilt, I made it from Makower animal life fabrics. It's a QAYG effort and taught me a lot about accurate cutting and sewing!

I have a lot to learn!

Kenora's Creation

I haven't been able to find time to sew for the last month, but I thought I'd take a couple of photos of what my finished quilt should look like once it's done. I had great ideas for colour combinations in my head, but now I've laid it out on the bed - only the individual D9P blocks are sewn together, nothing else - I'm not so sure I like it, but it's too late now. -<

I was intending to add an extra orange striped border in between the navy one and the outer turquoise chevron one, but it just didn't look right. The chevron border will also be mitred (if I can remember how to do it  :) ).The binding will probably be plain navy.

The backing fabric doesn't show up in the photo very well. It's a medium/light grey with a yellow feather design. It's much nicer in real life. :)

Twopence's Creation

Here it is then.

I used the Linus pattern for Courthouse Steps as that was what they asked for last year and just cut dinosaurs for the centre’s. The quilting was fairly simple as I stitched 1/4 inch round the centre panels and 1/4 inch in from the main seams joining the blocks before stitching the binding down on the front using blanket stitch.

and for once both my weeks and the rest of the populations coincide!

My foot really hurts, no idea what has happened but the pain seems to be between my toes if you prod about but when I stand I feel like Id rather cut the damn foot off ... and of course the weekend looms and Docs arent open on the weekend!

Anyhow enough of that .... OT on Saturday???  not bloody likely!

Have good days peeps ...
