Title: Oooooo bitch!
Post by: snoozi soozi on June 22, 2019, 10:27:53 AM
Just received my weekly email from TATB where they're promoting their new pattern release with a photo of Tilly wearing the dress they've made from it. Well, I don't think I've ever seen such an ill-fitting dress as a promo ever  :S

It won't encourage me to purchase any of their patterns, has anybody used them with good results?

I’ve heard a lot of bad and a few good comments... not a brand I would use.

Is this the Romy?  I just went to the blog, and if the pattern release is the same as that, then I understand.

Must admit, I’m not a fan of her clothes patterns. I bought her first book which is very readable and explains various techniques quite well but found it nowhere near as useful as Lauren Guthrie’s beginners sewing book. I also felt that the TATB clothes patterns only suited a boyish figure so never bothered making any of them up as they’d look ridiculous on me.

Saying that, I see lots of posts on Facebook where people upload pictures of themselves wearing something they’ve just made. Whilst I applaud the effort taken, I often think if they’d seen that item on a clothing rail, they’d surely never have bought it because either the colour/pattern doesn’t really suit them or the shape is deeply unflattering to their figure.  :S

Yes, the Romy, appropriately roaming everywhere

I am not interested in her patterns because I have read many comments saying they are cut very small.

She seems overly fixated on stripes, and I agree, the patterns seem designed for the androgynous body shape.  I know that such a boxy, unfitted shape, would cling to my boobs and belly, but hang like a sack over my butt.

I've made one of TATB patterns and I wasn't a fan. I know that a lot of people like the patterns because the instructions are very beginner friendly, but I remember the instructions being inconsistent. They were also more difficult than necessary in my opinion.

I started sewing garments from her first book and I thought it was well explained. I have also made the Bettine and Francoise dress which with adjustments, came really well.

But...since those releases I have found the patterns too geared towards beginners so a lack of shaping, zips etc which then results in a pretty average looking garment.

As for sizing, I would say they are on the smaller size which might be why they work for me although the size 6/8 was nearly 20 cm too big across my back
