Tech Know How / Re: Member Diaries and The Darkside Differences
« on: November 21, 2022, 20:42:39 PM »
It's your diary/log ... you can put whatever you want in it.

Even though mine was originally on the wardrobe side I still put my quilt photo and home stuff in it.  I was glad to see it in this more neutral place since I'm not the only on here who does multiple things.

A Good Yarn / Re: Ploshkin - Weaving Along

Love the purple tea towel (?).

Some of you may remember I thought about taking up weaving I think back in 2021 and took a couple of classes.  I was thinking about buying a loom but in the end I never did which I'm kind of glad about now with having to deal with two long distance moves in a year.  Depending on how big the place is that we end up buying I may revisit it next year.

I'm a 2 or 4 (black "design" buttons) as I think they add a nice touch to the solid color.  The first ones are too plain and to my eyes the lighter 3 isn't quite right with that red.

I see "hands" holding up olives for my martini.

@Catllar .... I'm right there with you regarding Christmas.  Covid really helped avoid going to Mr M's sisters house the last couple of years and now that we no longer live in Arizona and won't in the future either I can avoid it indefinitely.  :thumb:

Patterns Discussion / Re: Style Arc Norman

@sewmuchmore did you get that code in an email?  I am on their mailing list but looking at the last 4-5 emails received I didn't.  I'll check the freebies in November.  I've been known to wait until something is more to my liking but what ends up happening is that I like both of them or neither of them.  Once in a while I like only one.  I think there is probably 5-10 SA freebie patterns in my stash that I'll likely never use.

I would prefer that as a summer dress.

Too bad I don't like either of the Oct freebies.

Current Projects / Re: My scrappy D9P

I must have been dyslexic @Vezelay
I meant to say I preferred the top left / bottom right more solid color.  I have no idea why I said the opposite.  In any case, I think because the dominate color is more blue than aqua the solid color would work fine (unless of course it is significantly different in real life).

The multi print color doesn't seem quite right.  There's not enough contrast.  And I'm a print person so for me to prefer a solid over a print is unusual.

I also like bottom left / top right.  They seem to make it pop a little more than the other fabric and also I can pick out a bit of a match of some of the squares.

I didn't realize so many people hated these holiday things. I actually enjoyed them with Mr Mudcat as his CEO booked top notch restaurants and paid for everything.

I used to have some Christine Jonson one seam pants made up in various cotton/lycra knits as well as purple velour.  The latter would have worked for me in this situation.

@Catllar I love your Bennet pants.  They were on my wish list but now you've sold me on them.

I'm not one for sparkly stuff anymore though I would have embraced it when I was in my 20s and 30s. Where Mr Mudcat used to work they did fancy Holiday parties every year and I just wore black.  The thing is there was a wide range of outfits.  Some people wore fancy sparkly formal dresses and others wore similar to me.  Some men wore suits while others just wore their normal polo shirt with docker type pants.  One year I was a little shocked that the wife of a VP wore jeans with a casual top.  So I'd say just go with what you're comfortable in.

I like Blue Fish and Bryn Walker. I generally prefer the Spring collection over the fall. Also not difficult to copy. I primariily buy clothes at boutiques and look for things made in the US or Europe.  For basic pants I buy from JJill because I can count on them to fit reasonably well.

@Ohsewsimple the problem I have is this ... I hover between 8-10 on Style Arc.  Usually I use 8 for knits and 8 or 10 for woven.  I assume the fit should look like the model samples.  But in the case of the Bob Woven the 8 I chose was ridiculously enormous and wasn't even close to what the models where showing. To me that is an inconsistency and not style ease differences.

I don't follow fashion at all.  When other people post about it here or on PR I might take a look.  Overall I like lagenlook but to wear it I need to be careful to not overwhelm my short small boned frame.  I like funky shoes (Fluevog, Cydwoq, etc) as well.  I actually did like skinny jeans because they fit my slender legs like normal straight leg jeans for regular size people.

People should wear whatever they want. It may not be to my taste but whatever.  Actually, now that I think about it I pretty much take a look at whatever new patterns come out by Style Arc and a handful of independents and decide whether I want them or not.
