I like this design, but I’ve already got blocks made of 2” squares and my string blocks, so I could end up with 3 quilts , unless I come up with a way of combining. Maybe I could use the 2” square blocks as a sort of broad border. ::thinks::

I did 3 more string blocks for my scrappy quilt, before I went out to visit an old friend.  :D

@BrendaP i really like that rail fence one, don’t think I have enough scraps but I think I might give that a try with what I have and I might try to improvise by using old clothes etc.

I love the idea of making something out of nothing

Remember your local charity shop, if you have one. The one I work in often has bits and pieces of quilting fabric or you can use pure cotton clothes that you find there.

I’ve just found a few scrap blocks that I made ages ago, to reduce my scrap stash. I might make a few more and do a string quilt as shown in this picture   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I’ve got a few ideas now for a baby quilt too - just have to decide which design I like best. ::thinks::

Excellent and we have plenty of time to finish it. I’m off to look at my Pinterest page to see if I’ve got any scrappy quilt ideas already stored there  :D
Most of the baby quilts that I make are scrappy as I think it gives the child lots to look at, but I like to keep trying new designs.

I’d join in @SewRuthieSews . Plenty of scraps and I love scrappy quilts. :D

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Re: Bernina 570 For Sale SOLD

@Celia , glad you sold it as you will feel better. However, you shouldn’t really have felt guilty. I have friends who have Bernina sewing machines and almost never use them. One machine is years old and untouched : it hasn’t  even been out of the box. I think people buy machines full of good intentions, but then life is just too busy.

I finished my ‘ How joyful’ bear, made from my grandson’s clothes. I was amazed how much stuffing it took. I had to nip down to the charity shop to buy old cushion pads , so that I had enough. It was difficult to get the stuffing looking good, but I think they’ll like it.

I’ve been cutting out the parts of the ‘ so joyful’ free bear pattern. I’m using some more bits of my grandson’s clothes left over from my t shirt quilt,  as I thought my DIL would love to have a bear too and it’s a different sort of project for me. It’s years since I’ve a made a soft toy and couldn’t believe how many little bits there were to cut out. Here’s hoping it works out !

At last, I have finished my big double sided t shirt quilt. I think it took at least 50 hours to make, so was one of the most time consuming quilts I’ve ever made. All made from my almost 7 year old grandson’s clothes.
His mum also wants one made from my granddaughter’s clothes, but I hope she waits a while. My granddaughter is only 2 and I wouldn’t want to start another one straight away!  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]    [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Sewing Machines / Re: All about Sewing Machine Needles
« on: January 21, 2024, 08:14:20 AM »
Thanks @SewRuthieSews . I’ve kept that as I’m never sure about needle sizes and types.

Thanks @Iminei , I am a bit lazy when it comes to cleaning out the machine and changing the needle. :embarrassed:
I’ll do that today- promise!

Yes ,but I’ve worked out why. The 2” strips are folded in half , so are then 1”, but they then lose 1/4” to the seam allowance before they are overstitched down. My single strips are 1”, but are sewn on both sides so end up as 1/2” wide, while the double ones end up 3/4” wide. I suppose if I wanted them to be the same width I could cut the single strips 1 1/4” wide , but the slight difference means that when I’m over stitching the double strip I’m not sewing through the strip on the back.

Hope this makes sense  I’ve now done 3 strips of 6 and it’s going a bit faster  :D
