I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / In house patterns studio
« on: January 19, 2023, 12:23:31 PM »
Don’t know if this is the right place to put this.  Hopefully the folks that can will move it if not.   :)

I had an email from in-house patterns offering a free presentation about fitting.  I’ve signed up.  Probably won’t be able to watch live but you can watch the day after.  Thought it might be useful to some. Looks like she will be showing you how to use the balance lines on a pattern to help with fit.

Patterns Discussion / Cashmerette Patterns Size Calculator
« on: January 31, 2022, 17:44:24 PM »
Not sure if anyone uses these but I found this by chance.  I thought it might be useful for people who might not know what size patterns to use/start with.  Plug in your measurements and they tell you what size you should start with.

Further investigation revealed lots of info about the pattern sizing and the difference between their two ranges.  Also lots of tutorials etc.

Patterns Discussion / Sew Over It
« on: March 16, 2020, 12:57:11 PM »
Has anyone used any of these patterns?
I rather like the look of the Cora top.  It’s simple but I like the pleat effect at the front.  If I put my mind to it I’d probably be able to draft it but to be honest I can’t be bothered at the moment.

Embroidery and Embellishment / Euro Cafe Street Scene Finally finished
« on: December 20, 2019, 16:11:01 PM »
At last I have a complete scene.  The final sewing it together was a bit of a fight.  I have sewn it to some black satin backed crepe and the next job is to work out how I’m going to back it to hang it. But that’s a job for after Xmas.    [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Tonight on BBC2.   They are looking at how Barbour jackets are made.
Thought this might be interesting. I will be out so it’s on record.

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Dior and St Laurent
« on: August 03, 2019, 16:29:43 PM »
I recently downloaded programmes from Sky Arts about these two designers.
Dior- Designer of Dreams
The Drawings of Yves St Laurent

If you do a search on Sky Go you will still find them.  Dior programme is about an exhibition and what it took to create it.  I had to keep rewinding as it is all in French and I couldn’t always follow the subtitles and look at what was on screen at the same time.

The YSL was a bit easier to watch and I found this even more fascinating.

Apologies to those that don’t have Sky.  Bu I hope some of you can watch them and enjoy them as much as I did.  A small box of choccies goes very well with it!   :)

Not sure if this is the right place to post this.
Has anyone used these before?   They have some lovely  fabrics.  But, good grief, I have almost lost the will to live trying to navigate it.  Bit pretentious giving fabrics names methinks.  I just want to look for particular types, not work my way through every piece of cotton before I can find a simple lawn or  poplin etc   are these websites done by people who don't use fabric???

Publications / Where have I seen this info?
« on: April 06, 2017, 08:13:15 AM »
Hoping some bright spark can help me out here.  Years ago I remember seeing a diagram in a book, possibly Martin Shoben pattern cutting one, showing the relationship between armholes and sleeve heads.  I thought I had a photocopy of it but exhaustive searching through my mass of files has resulted in nothing.  :'(
If anyone has any idea where this is I'd be grateful to know.
